PW of average intelligence. Information is fairly reliable. PW deserted his unit on 11 Oct 50, and surrendered to the UN Forces on 12 Oct 50.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
Conscripted into the NKA on 13 Aug 50 and sent to the 28th Div at KUMCHON. Most of the men were recruits who received basic training for about 40 days.
Unit Organization and Strength:
28 Div, 2nd Bn - 600 men
Unit History:
The 28th Div was formed at KUMCHON on 15 Aug 5O, Received basic training until 17 Sep 50, then sent to KYONGGIDO (京畿道) about 24 km north of SEOUL. Stayed there 3 days and pulled back to KAESONG. Had a brief encounter with UN Forces on 6 Oct 50.
Communications:
Telephones were used between companies and battalions.
Foreign Elements:
PW observed one Russian officer (wearing uniform) while receiving training at the 28th Div area at KUNCHON. The Russian officer came several times to inspect the training and the barracks of the Div.
