3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
5 Feb 48: The RR Guard Unit, a civilian enterprise came under the jurisdiction of the army, and PW and many workers of that enterprise automatically became soldiers. Commissioned Jr Lt and assigned as the head of the auto repair shop in PYONGYANG.
2 Dec 48: Left PYONGYANG for PONGGUN and was assigned as an engineer of the Guard Unit.
30 Aug 49: PW moved to KUMHWA where the 377 Regt was situated, became a Sr Lt and assigned as Co Comdr.
25 Jun 50: He left KUMHWA with 377th Regt carrying ammo & rice in 5 trucks and arrived on the outskirts of SEOUL (4 km E) where the 377th Regt’1 Hq was established.
15 Jul 50: PW and his unit were first engaged in YONGDONG, and fought again at YONG MOK, about 8 km NW of WAEGWON.
22 Sep 50: Retreated with Asst Regt Comdr.
12 Oct 50: PW arrived at KUMHWA and found KUMHWA already invaded. PW surrendered to the ROK’s Security Police.
Unit Organization and Strength:
395 unit (or 3rd Div) was composed of three Regts and 377 unit (or 9th Regt) was attached to the 3rd Div. Transport Co was directly attached to 9th Regt. 9th Regt was made up of 3 Bns and 8 sub units. The 9th Regt had about 2,700 men.
Equipment:
Originally the Transport Co had 5 trucks which transported food and ammo to the frontline troops.
Personalities:
9th Regt Asst Comdr, LEE, Chung Sop, Lt Col; age - 33.
Morale & Propaganda:
Morale was high when PW’s unit was on the march, however, once they had a setback, their morale suddenly dropped.
Propaganda leaflets were very effective.
