3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
30 Jul 50 - Conscripted into the Volunteer Army at KYONGSONG.
15 Aug 50 - Arrived PYONGYANG with approx 1,000 men from Volunteer Army.
16 Aug 50 - Arrived SUNGHO-RI. Assigned to 19th Div, 3rd Regt, HMG Co. Other 1,000 men were assigned to various companies in 19th Div.
11 Oct 50 - Arrived SHONGYON RI and took up defensive positions.
12 Oct 50 - Overrun by UN Forces and disorganized. Heard one of the officers give orders to retreat to SIBYON-NI
13 Oct 50 - Surrendered to the ROK 8km N of KAESONG.
Unit Organization and Strength:
19th Div had 3 Inf Regts. The 3rd Regt was also known as the 559th Regt, and had approx 1,600 men. There were 3 Inf Bn’s in each Regt. Each Bn had 3 Rifle Co’s, one HMG Co, 1 Arty Co and a Supply, 45mm Arty, AT, Medical and Communication Plats. 3rd Bn had 550 men.
Equipment:
HMG Co - only rifles.
Arty Co - 5 or 6 mortars (Russian made)
Unit Duties:
Defensive Operations.
Communication:
PW stated that dirt road between IBYON-NI and SONGHYON-NI was very narrow with barely enough space for two trucks to pass. Many steep grades and sharp curves were observed.

Morale:
Morale of the men was very low because they were forced into the NKA.
