PW seemed intelligent. Answered questions without hesitation. Reliability good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
25 Nov 49: Inducted NKA in HOERYONG (會寧). Basic training at HOERYONG consisted of close order drill and infantry rifle training for one month. Strength of training unit 200 men.
27 Dec 49: Training unit departed HOERYONG by rail.
1 Jan 50: Arrived HAMHUNG (咸興) and the 200 men were assigned to various units in the 2nd Division. Assigned to the 2nd Div, 1st Regt, 3rd Bn, 2nd Co, 2nd Plat, 3rd Sqd. Received more infantry drill for 6 months.
15 June 50: Selected with 49 others to attend the #1 Military Academy in P’YONGYANG. Assigned to the 120mm mortar unit. Training consisted of range finding, sighting, and nomenclature of equipment and rifle marksmanship.
15 Aug 50: Departed P’YONGYANG by rail, arrived HAMHUNG 16 Aug 50. Assigned to the 75th Inf Rifle Regt, 120mm Mortar Co, 2nd Plat. 75th Regt was formed 4 Aug 50 at HAMHUNG. Remained in HAMHUNG with his unit until 25 Sep 50.
25 Sep 50: 75th Regt departed.
3 Oct 50: Arrived YONCH’ON (漣川) and elements of the Regt were deployed in this area.
8 Oct 50: ROK troops stormed into YONCH’ON and elements of the Regt stampeded. Many were killed and wounded. PW’s mortar plat lost 10 men. 10 men, including PW, surrendered and the rest escaped. PW states that his plat could not use mortars because they did not have ammunition.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the PW’s unit was low because of the following reasons:
1. 90% of men were over 35 yrs of age and hard to control.
2. Lack of Ammunition.
3. Bombing by aircraft.
4. No warm clothing.
5. Only two meals a day.
