3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
8 Jul 50 - Conscripted into NKA.
9 Jul 50 - 8 Oct 50 - Arrived at HAEJU, assigned to 77th Inf Regt composed of 3,000 men. 11 days later 77th Regt, less 1,000 men, departed for front. 74th Regt was organized from these 1,000 and other newly conscripted men. Approx 1 month later the 43rd Div was formed out of the 74th Regt. PW was assigned to 1st Inf Regt, 1st Bn, 82-mm Mortar Co of the 43rd Div.
8 Oct 50 - 1st Inf Regt departed HAEJU, and arrived at YONAN. The rest of 43rd Div was still at HAEJU. 1st Inf Regt was stationed at YONAN and 1st Bn and 82-mm Mortar Co went to a hill near YESONG River RR Bridge to establish defensive positions.
9 Oct 50 - PW’s unit was overrun by UN Forces, and PW surrendered at KWAMJI village.

Equipment:
43rd Div, 1st Inf Regt, 1st Bn, 82-mm Mortar Co - 4 × 82-mm Mortars (Russ make) M1942.
Communications:
Dirt road between HAEJU and YESONG River RR Bridge was compact. There were wide and narrow places but very few grades and curves. The center of the RR steel bridge (approx 150 m long) crossing the YESONG River was dynamited by NKA with slight damage.
