3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
5 Aug 50 - Conscripted into the NKA at PYONGYANG. Received orientation for about 1 month in regards to laying of mines, destroying bridges and repairing roads. Did not have any practical training.
20 Sep 50 - Arrived KAESONG.
3 Oct 50 - Deserted unit and surrendered to UN forces on 13 Oct 50.
Unit Organization and Strength:
816th Eng Unit - 4 Bn (350 men to Bn)
Equipment:
Picks and shovels.
Unit History:
25 Jul 50 - The 816th Unit was newly organized, all men and officers up to company grade were recruits. Stayed at PYONGYANG until 18 Sep 50. Departed PYONGYANG to go to SEOUL but stopped at KAESONG arriving there on 20 Sep 50.
22 Sep 50 - Arrived KUMCHON.
3 Oct 50 - Unit was ordered to the 38th Parallel and departed the same day.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of unit was very low due to the fact that they were forced into the army. Believes that about 40% of men deserted. Surrendered to UN forces after reading propaganda leaflets.
