2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and appeared to be average in intelligence and observation. He was in fair health.
Information is fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
19 Aug 50 - PW was conscripted int the NK Army in SUKCHON (肅川) and assigned to 19th Brig, 1st Bn, Comm Plat. He received basic training for three (3) weeks.
15 Sep 50 - The 19th Brig increased in strength and was designated as the 19th Div. PW was reassigned to the 1st Regt, Comm Co. Received basic training for about four (4) weeks as a corporal.
26 Sep 50 - The 1st Regt departed SUKCHON. The 2nd Regt left for KUMCHON (金川)
7 Oct 50 - The 1st Regt arrived at HANPO. PW and his Comm Co laid telephone wire in the vicinity of HANPO.
9 Oct 50 - 1st Regt departed HANPO.
10 Oct 50 - Arrived at SUK-LI (숙모리). PW and seven (7) other soldiers departed SUKMO-LI for HANPO again to retrieve some telephone wires.
11 Oct 50 - Arrived at HANPO and encountered elements of the UN forces. PW surrendered to the UN forces.

Unit Organization and Strength:
The 19th Inf Div was composed of three (3) Regts, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and five (5) Ind Bns (Comm Bn, Transportation Bn, Supply Bn, Reconnaissance Bn and Engineer Bn).
Each Regt was composed of three (3) Bns (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) and five (5) Ind Cos (Comm Co, Auto Rifle Co, Reconnaissance Co, Engr Co and Arty Co) and two (2) Ind Plats (Transportation Plat and Supply Plat).

Equipment:
For Independent Communications Co:
4 Sets - Wireless apparatus (believed to be telegraph)
20 Sets - Field telephones
2 Sets - Telephone exchange switchboards.

Communications:
PW believed that the unit (19th Div) was very short of field phones and other communication equipment. Due to poor supply system, replacements for damaged equipment could not be obtained.

Personalities: (19th Inf Div)
1st Regt CO - Lt Col KIM, Chong Tae (son of present Vice Minister of NK Home Ministry).

Morale and Propaganda:
The morale of the PW’s unit was low. Food rations were always short and there were cases of malnutrition.
On two occasions a few soldiers, including the PW, read UN propaganda leaflets in secrecy. It is the informant’s opinion that those who read these leaflets believed them. They influenced several soldiers from the unit to desert the NK Army.

4. GENERAL:
During the period 19 Aug 50 to 26 Aug 50, while the 19th Div was stationed in SUKCHON, PW observed several Russian military officers acting as advisers. A different Russian officer came to the area daily. All. the Russian officers observed were senior grade officers and were in military uniforms. They made inspections on the condition of the men and equipment. No Russian general officers were observed.
