3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
5 Aug 50 - Conscripted into the NKA at SARIWON (沙里院). and assigned to 19th Regt, 2nd Bn, 1st Co, and received basic training.
5 Sep 50 - Arrived at KUMCHON (金川) and assigned to 27th Brig, 635th Unit, 2nd 76mm Arty Bn, 3rd Co.
30 Sep 50 - 3 Bns of the 635th Unit arrived at PAJU (坡州) Area, Located 4km W of MUNSAN (文山). 3rd Co of the 2nd Bn constructed emplacements for artillery pieces in the mountain.
9 Oct 50 - 3 Bns of the 635th Unit arrived at KUMCHON.
13 Oct 50 - 2nd Bn arrived at KAECHONG (鷄井) and took defensive positions; on same day the Bn was overrun by UN forces. PW surrendered to UN forces at KAECHONG.
Unit Organization and Strength:

635th Unit was in the 27th Brigade. It consisted of 4 rifle Bns and one 76mm Arty Bn. The Arty Bn had 3 Btry’s. Strength of the 3rd Co was 45 men. Due to loss of weapons (Arty) the 3rd Co was changed to a rifle Co on 13 Oct 50.
Equipment:
PW saw no artillery pieces in his unit area from 5 Sep - 13 Oct 50.
Unit History:
PW stated that the 635th Unit was newly organized at KUMCHON o/a 5 Sep 50. He heard that unit’s duty was to establish defensive positions.
Communications:
Gravel road between SARIWON and KUMCHON was wide enough to allow heavy vehicles to pass each other. There were very few grades and sharp curves.
