PW was very cooperative and appeared to be intelligent, Information obtained seems reliable.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
14 Jul 50: Conscripted in PYONGYANG and sent to Military Officers School.
20 Aug 50: Completed his schooling and was commissioned Jr Lt. Departed PYONGYANG (平壤) and arrived at KANLI (間里); was assigned to the 816 Unit (4th Ind Engr Bn), 3rd Co, as the leader of 4th Plat. Unit in charge of basic training for new recruits.
18 Sep 50: The 816 Unit departed KANLI on foot.
3 Oct 50: Arrived at CHANGTAN (長端) and discovered that the 816 Unit could not cross the IMJIN River (臨津江) due to a destroyed bridge. Stayed in CHANGTAN for 3 days.
6 Oct 50: Heard that UN Forces entered ILSAN (一山). Unit retreated from CHANGTAN.
10 Oct 50: Arrived at KUMCHON (金川).
12 Oct 50: 1st and 4th Plats only of 3rd Co remained in KUMCHON. The unit retreated toward SIBYON-NI.
13 Oct 50: In KUMCHON, under UN artillery fire, the plats scattered.
14 Oct 50: PW and 5 other men surrendered to UN Forces.

Original Organization & Strength: - 4th Indep Engr Bn (816 Unit) - 24 officers, 336 soldiers. 1st, 2nd & 3rd Engr Cos - 120 men each.
Last Known Composition of Unit:
12 Oct 50 - The entire unit, except 1st and 4th Plats of 3rd Co, was heading toward SIBYON-LI (市辺里).
13 Oct 50 - 1st and 4th Plats completely routed.
Equipment:
The 816 Unit was without arms, save for 13 rifles (used by unit interior guards) and 12 pistols (carried by officers above the rank of Lt.
If and when unit reached SEOUL (서울) from KANLI (間里), it was to be outfitted with the proper type and number of weapons. Lack of weapons and equipment hastened the retreat of this unit toward SIBYON-LI (市辺里).
Unit Duties:
The original duty of the 816 Unit was to set up land mine areas in and near SEOUL (서울). Lack of proper transportation prevented this.
Unit History:
The 816 Unit (4th Ind Engr Bn) was activated in KANLI (間里) on 20 Aug 50. All were conscriptees with no military experience. Underwent 4 weeks of basic training, which included laying of land mines, building and repairing bridges, and repairing roads.

Morale & Propaganda:
The unit morale was low from the first day of its activation, due to the fact that the soldiers were conscripted. Lack of proper training in. warfare was another contributing factor.
4th Plat of 3rd Co once observed UN propaganda leaflets, which influenced numerous men to surrender on 13-14 Oct 50 in KUMCHON (金川)

Occasionally while attending Military Officers School, he observed at least three (3) Russian officers (Majs) acting as advisors to the school.
