2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and intelligent. Although report lacks detail, information is considered reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
25 Jul 50: Entered #1 OCS at P’YONGYANG (平壤) and received arty training for 20 days. Commissioned Jr Lt.
19 Aug 50: Shipped to NAMCH’ON (南川) and assigned to 3rd Plat, 45mm Ind AT gun Co, 4th HMG Bn, 26th Brig which was activated on 10 Aug 50. Served as a Plat Ldr until 18 Sep 50
25 Aug 50: Arrived YOMCH’ON (漣川) where the Brig CP was established. Each Bn was then shipped to the 38th parallel to set up defensive positions. Dispositions of the Bns on the 38th parallel not known except 4th HMG Bn on foot via SINKYE (新溪), CH’ORWON (鐵原). KORANGP’O IS LOCATED 33 km E of KAESONG (開城). His company was originally called the 45mm Ind AT Gun Co. Each man was given a rifle with 80 rounds of ammo and served as rifleman along the 38th parallel on both flanks of Hill 415.
11 Sep 50: 45mm Ind AT Co was practically surrounded and communication with the Bn CP was completely cut off.
1530 11 Sep: About 13 soldiers including the PW withdrew to Hill 415. At this time no one was at the Bn CP except the Bn CO and one veterinary surgeon who committed suicide. Due to unfavorable conditions the PW gave himself up voluntarily to the ROK troops with the 13 men.

Organization and Strength:
26th Ind Brig, which was activated at NAMCH’ON (南川) on 10 Aug 50, was originally composed of the following:

120mm mortar Bn180 men
76mm Field Arty-Gun Bn180 men
Engr Bn400 men

PW stated that 90% of the troops were N. Korean recruits.

Equipment:
As of 19 Sep 50 the following equipment was observed in the 26th Ind Brig at NAMCH’ON:
2 x 82mm mortars
3 x R-601 switchboards
Unk x UMA-F-31 Field Telephones.

Food:
Food was inadequate. Only one cooked rice ball was given per day. The rice balls were shipped in by ox-cart during the night.

Disposition:
As of 11 Oct 50 the 26th Brig CP was YONCH’ON. The CP was established here on 25 Aug 50 as mentioned previously.

Knowledge of other units:
Heard from his Co CO that 27th Brig was situated at the KUMCH’ON (金川) and the 57th Regt (Div unknown) was W of Hil 415. the 27th Brig was heard to be activated at KUMCH’ON in Aug 50.

Morale:
Recruits in the 26th Brig were drafted into the service in two separate groups; members of the labor organization and students. Morale among the former students was very low because members of the labor organization had higher rank.

There was a UN or ROK PW camp located at HOERYONG (會寧) (Hearsay).
