PW was cooperative but lacked military information. He did not appear to be intelligent nor observant. Information seems to be reliable. Not recommended for interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
4 Aug 50 - Conscripted in CHONGJIN (淸津).
6 Aug 50 - PW and 1,000 other unassigned recruits marched to WODAEJIN (奐大津).
7 Aug 50 - Left WODAEJIN and arrived at PUK KYUNG SUNG (北鏡城). Received basic training for 1 day.
11 Aug 50 - Left PUK KYUNG SUNG and arrived at CHONGJIN (淸津).
16 Aug 50 - The 1,000 recruits departed CHONGJIN.
26 Aug 50 - Arrived at TOGWON (德原) and assigned to an unk unit.
3 Sep 50 - The unit departed TOG WON
7 Sep 50 - Arrived at INCHON (仁川). PW learned that his outfit was the 226th unit. PW observed official documents bearing the unit’s designation.
14 Sep 50 - The 226th unit encountered enemy forces. PW deserted and hid for three days.
17 Sep 50 - Surrendered to SK Civilian Security Police. Held in INCHON Jail until 15 Oct. Then turned over to US forces at INCHON POW Stockade.
Unit Organization & Strength:
PW heard from fellow soldiers that the 226th unit was composed of approx. 1,000 officers and soldiers.
Intentions:
The 226th Unit was sent to INCHON to strengthen defense positions, which had been set up previously by unk units.
Equipment:
Only about 50% of the men of the 226th unit were equipped with arms.
