3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
13 Aug 50 - Conscripted into the NKA.
14 Aug 50 - Joined the newly organized 635 unit at KUMCHON.
23 Aug 50 - PONGILCHON. PW deserted here.
25 Aug 50 - Went to KAESONG.
29 Aug 50 - He met his unit and rejoined it at KAESONG after their retreat.
9 Oct 50 - Deserted unit again and surrendered to UN forces on 13 Oct 50.
Unit Organization and Strength:
635 Unit, 3rd Bn (750 men).
Equipment:
The 3rd Bn’s equipment consisted of 45mm Arty -2; HMG-26; LMG-30; Automatic rifles - 30; and I hand grenade per person.
Unit History:
The 635 Unit was newly organized at KUMCHON o/a 14 Aug 50. All the men were recruits, while most of the officers came from MANCHURIA. On 28 Sep, 635 Unit retreated to PONGILCHON and went to KUMCHON.
Communications:
Used telephones to communicate with other units.
Knowledge of other units:
PW saw 13 tanks at KUMCHON on 8 Oct 50. Unit & Strength unknown.

4. GENERAL:Foreign Elements:
While at KUMCHON on 27 Sep 50 a propaganda officer from the 635 unit told the men not to worry about losing the war because there were some Russian troops stationed at CHONJIN at present and they are the ones who are operating the antiaircraft guns. The officer further stated that 6 Chinese Communist Dives now at AMTUNG will come to KOREA very shortly.
American PsW:
PW saw about 10 US PsW at SARIWON RR station o/a Jul 50. He heard that the American PsW were being taken to PYONGYANG.
