3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
5 - 8 Oct 50 - Conscripted into the NKA at HAEJU (海州) and was assigned there to the 43rd Div, 1st Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co.
8 Oct 50 - Approx 50 troops of the 1st Bn were patrolling the RR, bridge at PAEKCHON when attacked by UN Forces. PW deserted unit, went to PAEKCHON and surrendered to UN Forces.
Unit Strength and Organization:
43rd Div was composed of 3 Regts, each with 3 Bn’s. Each Bn had 3 Inf Cos, 1 HMG Co, 1 82mm Co and a Communications, Supply, Medical and AT Gun Plat. Strength of 1st Bn was approx 700.
Equipment:
1st Bn - 4 × HMG, 4 × 82mm Mortars - 100 rounds per Mortar 82mm Mortar - 4 - 100 rounds per mortar. AT Gun - 2
Unit History:
PW stated that the 43rd Div was organized in HAEJU on 1 Oct 50. The present 1st Regt was called the 74th from 1 Oct 50 to 6 Oct 50. Strength of the Regt was not changed.
Communication:
The gravel road from HAEJU to PAEKCHON was wide enough for 2 tanks to pass.
Narrow gauge RR line between HAEJU and PAEKCHON was in good condition as of 8 Oct 50
