T/O & E:The 5th Division was composed of Arty regt, Engineer Bn, SP Gun Bn, Medic Bn, NCO Training Bn, the 10th Inf Regt (code 617 unit) 11th Inf Regt (code 618 unit) and the 12th Inf Regt (code 619 unit).
LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:The 10th Regt on 13 Sep 50, was located in the mountains 2 Kms West of POHANG. The Regt was making preparations to attack POHANG by night.
The 11th Regt was located 4 Kms West of POHANG in reserve of the 10th Regt and was prepared to reinforce the 10th Regt.
Tha 12th Regt was located somewhere in mountains Southeast of POHANG.
The 10th, 11th & 12th Regt did not have artillery support because the mountains were rugged and there were no roads.
The PW heard that the 7th North Korean Division was on the right flank of the 5th Division.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 10 Jul 48 at NANAM with 30 others and was assigned to the 617 Unit, 2nd Bn. Between Jul 48, to Aug 49, PW was trained as an infantryman. On 24 Aug 49, PW received a field promotion to 2nd Lt and was an Inf training officer for the 2nd Bn from Aug 49 to 23 Jun 50. Unit reached POHANG 10 Sep 50.
