PW surrendered voluntarily to 5th Cav Regt after deserting his sqd on 17 Sep 50. He had intended to desert for a long time, because his elder brother was a S Korean police of official of high standing.
PW was very cooperative. He stated that, if he had a large Korean map, he could point out the Div Hq & Supply Dumps.
Recommend further interrogation by interested parties.
T/O & E AND STRENGTHS.3rd Div composed of the 7th, 8th, 9th Inf Regts, Medic Bn and Arty unit. PW also heard that there was a Tank Regt.
Each Inf Regt composed of 3 Inf Bns, Medical Section, Engr Plt, Transport Co, Automatic Rifle Co, Veterinary Section, AA Plt, 76mm field gun Co, 45mm Mortar Co, 120mm Mortar Co (PW was not sure if it was attached to Regt or Div), Ordnance unit (responsible for repairing weapons & ammo supply), Clothing supply unit, Signal Co, Guard Plt, Food supply section, 82mm Mortar Co, HMG Co, and Hq Co.
Each Inf Bn composed of 3 rifle Cos, and clothing supply Plt.
As of 15 Sep 50, 3rd Div estimated to consist of 2000 men.
LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (As of 16 Sep 50)S/Officer Hq of 3rd Div was located 5 km NW of WAEGWAN and in a Mt back of the S/Office PW saw 4 Arty positions.
The 3rd Div Hq was located 13 to 14 km W of WAEGWAN (PUSAN-MYON Area).
9th Regt was located 8 km SE of WAEGWAN.
8th Regt was located North of the 9th Regt & the 7th Regt was located in the rear (West) of the 8th Regt.
PW heard that the 206th Unit (defense unit) was located 8 km SW of SIN-DONG.
PW also heard that the 15th Div was on the left flank of 3rd Div and the 10th Div to the right. The three Divs were supposed to take TAEGU.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 18 Apr 50 at HAMHUNG.
Received no training (only labors work). Reached SINDONG 17 Sep 50.

PW stated that Food & Ammo (45mm, 76mm, 120mm, grenades & ammo were brought in by four ox carts every night from a point 13 to 14 km W of WAEGAN.
MORALE:Morale of the Transportation Co was low because they were fooled by N Korean propaganda concerning this war. They realized the truth when they entered S Korea.
