1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
PW was a member of the Communist Youth League (勞農靑年同盟) in MANCHURIA from Mar 46 to Mar 47. In this organization he was given close order drill, political indoctrination. The league was composed of Chinese and Koreans and called the MINGYU City Communist Youth League.
25 Feb 48 - Volunteered for the army in CHILIN, MANCHURIA. Basic training here consisted of close order drill, political indoctrination, military tactics, calisthenics, hiking and rifle marksmanship. He was assigned to the CCF 6th Div, 17th Regt, 3rd Bn, Arty Co, 1st Plt, 2nd Sqd.
6th Div was composed of 1,700 Chinese, 3,200 Koreans and 100 Japanese. They participated in several battles against the Nationalist Army in MANCHURIA during PW's 2 years in the CCF.
15 Apr 50 - All Korean personnel were ordered into NK. Approximately 1,800 more Koreans were attached to 3,200 Korean soldiers of 6th Div. Total strength of 5,000 Koreans departed CHILIN, MANCHURIA 15 Apr 50, and arrived in ANTUNG, MANCHURIA (滿洲) directly across the YALU (鴨綠江) River from SIUIJU (新義州) 22 Apr 50. Departed the same day and travelled by train to MUNP’YONG-Ni, arrived 24 Apr 50.
Remained in MUNP’YONG-Ni until 18 Jun 50. They brought their own weapons and equipment from CHILIN, MANCHURIA. When the 5,000 men left CHILIN, MANCHURIA the unit was called 7th Div, 2nd Regt, 2nd Bn, HMG Co, 2nd Plt, 3rd Sqd.
25 Jun 50 - The 7th Div stationed in YANGGU (楊口) crossed the 38° Parallel line at approximately 0600 hours and arrived in CH’UNCH’ON (春川).
Departed CH’UNCH’ON 26 Jun 50 - marched - arrived ANDONG (安東) 2 Aug 50. In ANDONG the 7th Div engaged in battle for 4 days. PW was hospitalized due to a malaria attack and dysentery for 25 days.
Departed ANDONG - 27 Aug 50 - marched - arrived vicinity of KYONGJU (慶州) 2 Sep 50.
PW and 9 others left ANDONG to locate the 7th Div in KYONGJU Area.
Departed KYONGJU - 15 Sep 50 - marched - arrived YAILRI 16 Sep 50. PW was taken prisoner approximately 2000 hours.

Unit Organization:
7th Div was composed of 3 regts, arty regt (1,500 men per Regt).
2nd Regt composed of three (3) 500 men battalions.
2nd Bn composed of 4th Co, 5th Co, 6th Co and HMG Co. 150 men per company and 60 men to HMG Co.
HMG Co was composed of 3 HMG Plts.
When PW was taken prisoner the Div was at Regtl strength.

Intention:
All wounded were evacuated to ANDONG. The objective of the 7th Div was KYONGJU.

Morale:
When PW departed YANGGU the entire 7th Div had high spirit. They had sufficient food supply, weapons, equipments and with thought of winning this war. After the battle in ANDONG his morale gradually dropped due to heavy losses, lack of food, replacements, poor health due to malaria and dysentery, excessive fatigue and lack of air support. PW feels safe and enjoying his PW life!

Propaganda Leaflets and Broadcast:
PW feels that if the tide of the battle changes there would be more NK soldiers surrendering with the help of good propaganda leaflets.
