PW very cooperative but information was limited. PW is not recommended for further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
10 Jul 50 - PW under threat of death to himself and his family, was inducted into the army. PW had no basic training except for some close order drill in SEOUL.
25 Jul 50 - PW with 1000 recent conscripts started on foot for P'YONGT'AEK (平澤) and arrived 29 Jul 50. Remained at P'YONGT'AEK 3 days. Left there on foot 1 Aug 50 for TAEJON (大田) arrived 5 Aug 50. Departed TAEJON on foot and arrived at KUMSAN (錦山) on 7 Aug 50. Departed KUMSAN on the 8 Aug 50, on foot arrived at CHANGGYE-Ri, (長溪里) for some training and then on 12 Aug 50 left for ANUI (安義), arriving 13 Aug 50. At ANUI the 1000 replacements were subjected to heavy fighter aircraft attack. No casualties occured during the attack. Departed on foot on 14 Aug 50, for CHINJU (晋州) and arrived at a point 8 km NW of CHINJU, 17 Aug 50.
PW was then placed in a replacement pool in CHINYANG-Myon (晋陽面) 4 km N of CHINJU with the 1000 other conscripts. PW spent a few days there waiting for his assignment. PW was finally assigned to the 13th Regt, 6th Div on 4 Sep 50, and was sent to the HAMAN (咸安) area with 150 replacements. PW reached destination 5 Sep 50. Deserted his unit and surrendered 17 Sep 50.
Equipment:
M1891/30 Rifles only.
PW also saw one (1) 45-mm M1942 AT Gun in the 13th Regt prior to his capture.
Disposition:
Big Replacement Center at CHINYANG-Myon 4 km N of CHINJU (1110-1360).
Communications:
Roads from SEOUL down to CHINJU, very bad.
RR bridges out. Telephone lines in poor condition.
Intentions: (as of 4 Sep 50)
PW heard from squad leader that the 7th Div had the mission of attacking and holding the left flank where the NAKTONG River makes the big bend.
The 6th Div had the mission of making a straight frontal attack to MASAN then to PUSAN.
The 9th Div to follow the coast line on the right flank of the 6th Div then in to PUSAN.
Morale and Propaganda Leaflets:
PW read propaganda leaflets. PW wanted to give himself up at the first opportunity.
4. GENERAL INFORMATION:Rate of exchange between North Korean WON and ROK WON is 1 NK WON to 8 ROK WON. PW heard about it from Bank officials while he was in SEOUL prior to joining the army.
