On 15 Jan 47 PW left home and went to NANAM (羅南); arrived 16 Jan 47. PW was then inclucted into the NKPA. PW was indoctrinated in the ways of military life. PW joined the army because of the hardships at home. He was told that if he joined the army he and his family would be well cared for and also that the training would last only 3 to 4 months, and then he could go back to his home. But after PW was inducted, he was kept at NANAM doing various police details until 8 Jun 48 when the North Korean Government officially created the NKPA. PW was then officially inducted into this new army and started his training in the recently activated 2nd Div, 6th Regt, 45-mm AT Bn. PW stayed at NANAM with his Div until sometime in Jul 49, when the 2nd Div received orders to move by train to HUNGNAM (興南). Arrived two days later. The Div then received orders to move by train to KUMCH'ON (金泉). Departed o/a 21 Jun 50 and arrived on 23 Jun 50. PW's 2nd Div then prepared for war.
25 Jun 50, crossed the 38° Parallel and fought its way down to CH'UNGJU (忠州), arrived o/a 26 Jul 50. The 2nd Div then marched towards KUMCH'ON (金泉), arrived 6 Aug 50. While on their way to KUMCH'ON. PW's 2nd Div encountered aircraft interdiction and had quite a number of casualties, thereby making it necessary for the Div to seek concealment in wooded areas during the day and march at night. 2nd Div was held at KUMCH'ON Area in reserve.
O/a 1 Sep 50, 2nd Div departed for WAEGWAN (倭館) and waded across the NAKTONG River.
16 Sep 50 - PW's Co had 3 x 45-mm M1942 AT Guns that they had brought across the NAKTONG River. 2 of the guns were damaged by artillery fire and the third piece was also damaged later in the engagement. Since PW's plt had no guns, PW took over the responsibility of gathering whatever rice he could to feed his men. While on this mission the forward elements of PW's unit started to retreat back across the NAKTONG River in confusion. PW and 6 of his men hid under a bridge and talked things over. PW told his men that he had heard that the UN Forces took good care of their prisoners. PW then surrendered with his men when UN Forces appeared.
