2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was captured while enroute to the front lines with stretchers. PW was in good health. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
16 Aug 50 - PW was inducted into the Army with promises of further education. A group of 2,000 men from KANG WON-Do (江原道) was formed into a Volunteer Unit.
20 Aug 50 - The Volunteer Unit arrived at WONJU (原州) and received army uniforms. Without training, they started marching after 3 days of rest.
13 Sep 50 - Under cover of darkness, the Volunteer Unit arrived at P’ALGONGSAN (八公山) via CHECH’ON (堤川), TANYANG (丹陽), YONGJU (榮州), ANDONG (安東), UISONG (義城), KUNWI (軍威) and TABU-DONG. All the members of the Volunteer Unit were issued 2 hand grenades each. FW and 25 others were assigned to 3rd Plt as litter bearer and ordered to the front lines.

Unit Organization and Strength:
Original Organization and Strength: The Volunteer Unit was composed of 2,000 men.
Actual Battle Organization and Strength: The Volunteer Unit was divided into 40 men platoons upon arrival at P’ALGONGSAN and NCO's of the regular NKPA were assigned as platoon leaders. All the platoons were sent to the different units of the 13th Div as replacements.

Communications:
Bridges: All bridges enroute from WONJU to P'ALGONG-SAN were damaged, but all of them were temporarily repaired with logs and sand bags.

Intentions:
PW heard that the objective of the Volunteer Unit was to reinforce the units fighting in the P'ALGONG-SAN.

Morale and Propaganda:
The morale of the Volunteer Unit was very low and the majority had intentions of deserting or surrendering to the ROK Forces at the first opportunity: PW once read a US Propaganda Leaflet which was dropped near the mountains of SONSAN,
