The PW was compelled to join the Communist Youth Organization (民靑) but received no training. He was of good health and cooperative. He appeared to be of average intelligence. Not recommended for further interrogation.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
| 28 Jun 50: | Conscripted into the NKPA at SINUIJU (新義州). |
| 29 Jun 50: | 2,000 men (ages 18-30) together with the PW, who were recruited at SINUIJU arrived at P'YONGYANG. |
| 30 Jun 50: | Arrived at SEOUL and remained there for 5 days. During this period more men were inducted as replacements and integrated into the 9th Inf Div. The PW stated that 2/3 of the troops had received no military training. |
| 24 Aug 50: | PW's company arrived at north bank of the NAKTONG River 4 km N of CH'ANGNYONG. Having marched there, they remained for eight (8) days waiting for the arrival cf the entire 9th Div. |
| 2 Sep 50: | The 9th Div crossed the NAKTONG River. In this operation the PW was wounded in the right leg. When he was left behind he picked up the US leaflet, joined some refugees, threw up his hands with the leaflet and surrendered. While with the refugees he observed countless 9th Div dead. Judging from the dead observed, he believed that half of the 9th Div was wiped out. |
Unit Organization & Strength:
The 1st Bn (500 men) composed of 1st, 2nd, 3rd Companies, HMG Co, 82mm Mortar Co, Medical Plt, Transportation Plt and an Engineer Plt. He stated that 1/3 of the 9th Div was composed of S Koreans.

The 1st Bn was equipped with the following equipment:
1st Co - 8 x HMGs
2nd Co - 8 x HMGs
3rd Co - 8 x HMGs
HMG Co - 24 x HMGs
Mortar Co - 6 x 82mm mortars
2 x 45mm AT guns
Transportation Plt - 5 x trucks
Intentions:
Mission of the 9th Div was to take MIRYANG (密陽).
Personalities:
1st Co Cmdr: CH’OE Han Kil (崔漢吉), age 29.
Plt ldr, 2nd Plt: CH'OE Ch‘ang Bok (崔昌福), age 25.
Morale & Propaganda:
Morale was very low due to lack of air support, equipment and training. Troops had no alternative but to remain in the army though they knew they would be defeated.
