PW was cooperative. Information seems reliable although military service was limited.
T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF:7th Div composed of 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Inf Regts, Replacement Co, Guard Plat, Signal Plat, and other elements.
Each Inf Regt composed of 3 Inf Bns, each Bn composed of 3 Inf Co's, each Inf Co composed of 3 Inf Plats and one (1) HMG Platoon. Each Inf Plat composed of three (3) squads.
LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:PW's 1st Regt and other elements of 7th Div were located on a mountain along the river N of ANGANG NI at time of his capture on 16 Sep 50. PW believes that 7th Div Hq was also located here.
Objective of 7th Div was PUSAN via ANGANG NI at time of his capture.
Stated that 5th Div was located between POHANG and HUNGHAE about the end of Aug 50.
Heard that 8th Div was attacking TAEGU on 1st Sep 50 (location unknown).
The group (of 300 men) was assigned to 7th Div at TANYANG on 20 Aug 50.
PW with 100 men was assigned to 1st Co, Replacement Bn, 7th Div.
Deserted unit when 1st Co arrived on a mountain North of ANGANG NI.
He surrendered to ROK Army at ANGANG NI on 161200 K Sep 50.
REPLACEMENT:More than 1,000 replacements joined 7th Div since unit left TANYANG. They joined 7th Div at ANDONG, YONGDOK & KIGYE between 20 Aug and 14 Sep 50.
PW believes that replacements came from SEOUL. About ½ of the replacements carried their own rifles (average 20 rds per man). They were all SK conscripts with about 1 to 2 weeks training.
FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:After leaving SEOUL, food was mostly confiscated from farmers homes in the occupied area.
PW received one (1) issue of 30 rds small arms ammo upon arriving at KIGYE on 15 Sep 50. Observed an ammo dump covered with grass (containing a large amount of artillery shells & small arms ammo) along the river in vicinity of KIGYE on 10 Sep 50. Believes that KIGYE was used as a distributing point for the 7th Division.
ARMOR & ARTILLERY:Observed 3 x tanks (type - T-34/85 medium tank) heading South approx 8 Km North of ANGANG NI o/a 2 Sep 50 (1210-1460).
Observed about 6 x Arty pieces (caliber unk) located approx 4 Km North of ANGANG NI o/a 14 Sep 50. (1210-1450).
MORALE:Morale of 7th Div was very high because they had confidences in final victory as UN Forces were being pushed back.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted on 10 July 50 at KYONGSONG (SEOUL).
Received no training.
A group of 300 new conscripts departed KYONGSONG on 15 July 50. This group was called "KYONGSONG NAMDO UNIT" ( ). The members of this unit were South Korean conscripts. While traveling to ANGANG NI from SEOUL, the following places were passed: WONJU, TANYANG, YONGJU, ANDONG, CHONGSONG, YONGDOK, CHONGHAE and KIGYE.
US PW’S:Observed about 300 US PW's marching through SEOUL on 10 Jul 50. They were carrying about 10 placards which demanded that US troops withdraw and that US stop supplying war equipment to South Korea.
