PW was cooperative; but due to limited military service, information seems unreliable.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Conscripted, 14 Aug 50, at PYONGCHANG.
Received no training.
A group of approx 1,500 untrained South Korean conscripts departed PYONGCHANG on 21 Aug 50.
Arrived UIHUNG 13 Sep 50.
When the group arrived on Hill 722.8 on 13 Sep 50, they were assigned to the 8th Div elements.
PW and 31 recruits were assigned to the 1st Plat, 1st Co, 1st Bn, 2nd Regt
They received rifles and two (2) grenades (per man) from the 1st Platoon on 13 Sep 50.
182030 K Sep 50, PW & 3 others deserted their platoon (located on Hill 722.8 and two hours later surrendered to ROK troops.
PW received one (1) issue of 150 rounds of small arms ammo on 13 Sep 50.
PW observed an ammunition dump along the road at UIHUNG (1160-1470) between 13 & 14 Sep 50. Among the stacks, there were crates of small arms ammo, grenades, and artillery ammo (120mm, 46mm).
ARMOR & ARTILLERY:PW observed two (2) tanks (type - T34/85 tank) heading North from UIHUNG on 13 Sep 50.
On 13 Sep 50, PW observed two (2) artillery pieces in an orchard located approx 2½ Km North of the Hill 722.8 in UIHUNG.
