Informant seems sincere. Information, although limited seems reliable.
T/O AND E AND STRENGTH AS OF 17 Sep 50The 5th Div composed of arty reft, 10th, 11th and 12th Inf Regts. Each Regt composed of 3 x Bns. Each Bn, 14 HMG Co, and 3 x Rifle Co.
LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:The 2nd Bn of the 10th Regt has beer wiped out. The troops who survived are believed to be in the mountains near NODAN RI in small groups.
The 10th Regt is believed to have been annihilated on 9 Sep 50. The informant and 30 others regrouped to form a company on 16 Sep 50. The 30 troops were the remnants of the 10th Regt.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 28 Oct 49, with 40 others at NANAM and assigned to 2nd Div, 6th Regt, 2nd Bn, for training. Received two months of basic training. In Dec 49, the PW and 40 others were transfered to the Army Horse Farm in NONG PO, near the Manchurian Border. In Mar 50, with 150 others was transfered to the 5th Div, in NANAM and assigned to the 2nd Bn of the 10th Regt. Between Mar 50 to 21 Jun 50, the 10th Regt received combat training in preparation for war. Left NANAM 22 June 50 and reached POHANG date unknown.
The informant was taken prisoner on 17 Sep 50, while attempting to find his company.
FOOD & AMMO:The PW, enroute to his unit from YONGHAE to POHANG on 28 Aug 50, observed camouflaged ammo dumps on both sides of the coastal highway at 2 Km intervals. Each dump contained about 1 truckload of ammo. The ammo was placed in both drainage ditches of the highway. Chiefly artillery shells and smell arms.
The division has not been able to recover its ammo from the highway because of harassing naval gun fire and aircraft.
MORALE:Morale in informants unit is very high, because the troops were told that TAEGU and PUSAN were in NK hands and that the battle for POHANG would be the last.
