2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was sincere and cooperative. However, unable to recall dates. Not recommended for ruther interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
17 Feb 50: PW was inducted at CHINNAMP’O (鎮南浦), Departed by train for P’YONGYANG (  ) and received 3 months of training. Daily training consisted of two hours of political lectures, two hours of mine laying and the various uses of powder, one hour of physical exercise. Russian advisors supervisors supervised the whole training program.
14 Jun 50: Departed by train for SEOUL and WONJU (原州) and arrived late because of aircraft bombing 24 Jun 50. PW was promoted to Sr Lt from Sgt (24 Jun 50).
28 Jun 50: Departed by train and arrived at ANDONG (安東) 2 Jul 50.
6 Jul 50: Departed by trucks and arrived at UISONG (義城) 7 Jul 50.
8 Jul 50: PW’s unit joined the battle and fought its way to KUSAN DONG (九山洞) and down to CHWACH’ON-DONG (左川洞). Unit then dug in for defensive action up to 20 Aug 50.
20 Aug 50: PW’s Bn started to retreat because of great losses in killed and wounded and to save whatever was left of the mine laying equipment. The 2nd Ind Arty Bn retreated to CH’ONG-SONG (青松), while PW’s Bn was ordered to CHIMBO (真宝) and arrived 24 Sep 50.
28 Sep 50: PW with approx 34 me departed on foot for ANDONG, but because of the presence of ROK troops, by-passed ANDONG and headed for YONGJU (榮州). On his way to YONGJU PW lost most of his men through desertions and upon arriving found that ROK troops had occupied the town. PW then went to P’UNGGI (豐基) and surrendered to ROK troops with six of his men 30 Sep 50.

Actual battle organization and strength:
522nd unit - 800 men. Unit Routed

Equipment:
1. Unlimited number of M1938 AT mines. It is a square field gray, metal case, with a hinged lid which acts as a pressure plate. The case contains approx six (6) pounds of TNT blocks and the MV-5 pressure igniter is used. Weight in excess of 400 kilos will detonate the mine. It is used mostly against tanks.
2. Unlimited number of PMZ-40 AT mines
a. The mine’s olive-drab, cylindrical steel case contains seven (7) pounds of cast TNT or amatol.
b. The MV-5 pressure igniter is also used in this type of mine.
c. When used against tanks, it detonates with a pressure of approx 400 kilos.
3. Unlimited number of YAM-5 mines
a. Used as anti-personnel mine
b. MUV mine igniter is used
c. A charge of 75 grams of amatol is used for anti-personnel purpose.
d. For AT purpose a change of 8 1/2 pounds TNT with the MUV igniter and a 200 gram booster charge is used.
e. The YAM-5 mine case is a rectangular wooden box.
4. Unlimited number of POMZ-2 anti-personnel mines
a. Fragmentation mine, similar to a hand grenade in appearance. The body of the mine is fastened to a wooden stake driven into the ground.
b. The MUV igniter is used, and is activated by a trip wire or strong vine.
5. Unlimited number of PMD-7 1/2s anti-personnel mines.
a. Made by hollowing out a wooden block
b. Contains 75 grams charge of TNT and uses MUV pull igniter.
6. There were 6 VIM-203 mine detectors in PW’s Co.
7. When laying mine on a road for anti-tank purpose the mines are spread approx 3 m apart and staggered. 4 rows of mines are usually laid across the road in one unit.

Remarks: Strong member of People’s Labor Party. Lived in MANCHURIA for 8 years. Former officer of the CCF 8th Army.
