2. ASSESSMENT:
PW cooperative - limited information on Tactical movement - no training in military functions - Promoted to LT upon Conscription in Army - No information on permanent training centers and Barracks.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Aug 49 - Conscripted in NKA, PYONGYANG. No military training. PW and 10 classmates were promoted to Lt and were all assigned as Technical Officers. Duties were director for Construction of Gasoline Storage Tank - Capacity of Tank - 10,000 tons gasoline, Diameter - 50 meters, height - 10 meters. Only one was construction. LOCATION OF STORAGE TANK - 8 km E of P’YONGYANG Main Railway Station - by the side of a mountain. Whether this storage tank is being used now is unknown
14 Mar 50 - PW departed P’YONGYANG by rail, Arrived at SUKCH’ON (肅川) same day and assigned to the Youth Training Center from the Ministry of Defense on trucks. PW issued the same. Each Training Center is divided into four sections of 2500 men each, all recruits. PW was in the 2nd Youth Training Center when the war broke out. The 1st Center became the 13th Div, the 2nd became the 10th Div, the 3rd became the 15th Div.
15 Jul 50 - 10th Div moved to SADONG (寺洞) after the 165th Tank Brigade moved to the battle front. 10th Div Personnel were issued Russian Rifles and ammunition for training purposes. Vehicles in 10th Div Consisted of - 16 SU 76 Self propelled guns, 12 ZIS - 151’s 36 G-Z - 51, 12 GAZ - 63, 3 GAZ 67, 30 GAZ - 150 - not listed in Cent Inter Cntr Target Book - o ton cap (Note - Capacity not clear in original report), 6 M72 Form - Motorcycles - Russian made. Monthly fuel Consumption for behicles listed above was 12000 kilograms.
29 Jul 50 - 10th Div departed SADONG (寺洞) by rail - arrived TAEJON 14 Aug 50 with 600 kilograms of gasoline.
o/a 17 Aug 50 - 10th Div departed TAEJON, arrived KORYONG (高寧) o/a 24 - 25 Aug 50. Enroute, aircraft destroyed 20 vehicles and supplies on vehicles. Approximately 2000 men killed. At Koryong elements of 10th Div were deployed along the west bank of the NAKTONG River with Hq remaining in KORYONG. PW remained in KUMCH’ON at 1st Corps. Gasoline Dump located approximately 16 km N-W of KUMCH’ON in a village called CH’UP’UNG (秋風). Every 5 days 15-20 drums of gasoline were delivered to KORYONG 10th Div Hqs. Each Div along the NAKTONG River received gas rations every five days from the 1st Corp gas dump.
15 Sep 50 - 1st Corps Gas Supply Dump at CHUPUNG went dry for 5 days because of aerial bombing of railroad bridge. After 5 days only 150 drums gasoline arrived and thereafter no gasoline supply could be obtained from SEOUL or P’YONGYANG. All vehicles in the 16th Div were deadlined because of lack of gas - Only the CG of 10th Div received gasoline.
o/a 20 Sep 50 - PW while in CH’UP’UNG heard that the UN troops were closing in on KUMCH’ON (金泉), so he left for CHOCH’I WON (鳥致院) via TAEJON. Could not enter CHOCH’I WON because UN Forces were there. He then headed for ANSONG (安城) via OKSAN (玉山). At Oksan he surrendered to village guards but they told him to go home as there were many Nk Troops who had gone on home from there. PW agreed to go. On way toward ANSONG, he surrendered to UN Troops on 2 Oct 50.

Unit Organization and Strength 10th Div:
1. Original Organization and strength 10,000 men.
2. Original Reduced to 8,000 men for battle Organization.
3. Last known composition of Unit - Approximately 3,000 - 4,000 men - retreating toward North.

Equipment:
Last known Composition of Equipment - All vehicles destroyed or captured because of lack of fuel.

Communications:
Roads between Taejon and Koryong were in good shape - Road to KUMCH’ON was narrow and bad.

Personalities:
10th Div CG - Name - KIM, Tae Hong (金大弘), Rank - Maj Gen (少將), Age 48, REMARKS - Relieved from Command because of bad judgement which caused great losses in his command. Relieved by 4th Div Chief of Staff (Name unk) (Hearsay - That the CG 10th Div was formerly from Russia).

NK Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of men in Div was low due to aerial attacks and lack of food and supplies.

4. GENERAL:
The NKA War Department is located in the former Japanese 77th Regt Barracks and the former Anti-Aircraft Regt Powder Magazine in P’YONGYANG, LOCATION - 1.5 km N of P’YONGYANG main Railroad station
