2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and talked freely. Although he graduated from the Political Training School, he claimed he knows very little about politics and says he could not absorb anything while in school. He appeared quite sincere.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
9 Nov 48 - Was inducted into the NKA at NANAM (羅南), received 40 days training and on 20 Dec 48 entered the Political Training in P’YONGYANG.
12 Jun 49 - Graduated and commissioned a Lt (中尉). Assigned to the 303rd Ind Recon Bn at P’YONGYANG, and became Cultural Officer of the Armored Car Co.
1 Mar 50 - Transferred to the recently organized 603rd Mtz Inf Regt, also in P’YONGYANG, promoted to Sr Lt (大尉) and assigned to the 1st Bn.
12 Jun 50 - The 603rd Mtz Inf Regt departed P’YONGYANG, and o/a 16 Jun 50 arrived in KANSONG (行城).
O/a 18 Jun 50 - Arrived in WONT’ONG-Ni. Received supplies and made preparations here.
26 Jun 50 - The 603rd Mtz Inf Regt crossed the 38o Parallel after the 12th Div spearheaded the attack.
1 Sep 50 - In advancing, the Regt was deployed by Bns, but reassembled in PANSONG. Regt was deployed by Bns, but reassembled in PANSONG. Regt had only automatic weapons. The motorcycle and jeeps were left in UIRYONG (宜寧). Infantry troops performed guard duty behind the line, immediately W of CHINDONG-Ni. The NKA 6th Div was then on the line and since their strength was so depleted, the 1st Bn sent 200 men as reinforcements for them.
19 Sep 50 - The 1st Bn received 150 replacements. Only half were armed, and they were immediately sent to the line. PW was ordered by the 1st Bn Commander to go to the Corps Hospital in NAMWON and get all patients from the 1st Bn who were sufficiently recovered to bear arms.
21 Sep 50 - Arrived in NAMWON, but there were no patients from the PW’s Bn.
24 Sep 50 - Arrived in HAMYANG where he found 4 members of his Bn who had been released from the hospital.
25 Sep 50 - Arrived at a place called OMIRI (오미리). Here he met other troops from the 603rd who were retreating from the PANSONG Area. At SANCH’ONG he met more troops of the 603rd. They told him the Regt was to regroup and hold the line at ANUI, were abandoned because of lack of fuel.
26 Sep 50 - Arrived in ANUI. Only about 400 troops of the 603rd assembled here. Late in the evening UN tanks entered ANUI. The Regtl CO told the officers to retreat and assemble at TAEJON.
27 Sep 50 - Arrived in KUMSAN (錦山) where he found an abandoned motorcycle.
28 Sep 50 -Arrived in TAEJON, but saw only 3 other members of the 603rd here. About 2200 hrs, UN tanks entered TAEJON. Decided to try to go to the 38o Parallel.
3 Oct 50 - Arrived at a point near UMSONG and talked to South Korean civilians who told them they need not fear being killed by UN troops if they surrendered. Surrendered to the police at a place 6 km N of UMSONG (陰城).

Equipment:
Original equipment in each motorized infantry Bn was as follows:
15 x Motorcycle with side cars
23 x jeeps
230 x PPsh SMGs
150 x LMG which were mountable on the motorcycle side cars.
12 x HMG which were mounted on the jeeps.
30 x Carbines.

4. GENERAL:
P’YONGYANG Political Training School:
To enter the school the candidate must be of the working class and be able to read and write. Generally, persons with very little education were chosen. Labor Party members were readily accepted in the School.
The School had two types of classes, 18 months and 10 months. There were no differences in the curricula of the two types of classes other than that one was a condensed course. Often these 10 month and 18 month classes were out short to meet the demands of new units.
Students attended class 46 hours per week. There were always about 1,200 students in the school. The following was taught in the school:
Political Science - 400 hours
Geography, Politics and Economics - 400 hours
Korean History - 400 hours
Soviet History and Marxism - 450 hours
Russian Language - abandoned after 20 hours
Military Science and Training - 300 hours.
Upon graduation the student was commissioned a Lt (中尉) and automatically accepted into the Labor Party. A graduate of the School was obligated to became a Labor Party member. The faculty were all Koreans, about 40% of whom were educated in RUSSIA. A Russian Major was an advisor in the school.
