PW was a school teacher in P’YONGYANG 18th Primary School and was ordered by the principal of the school, through Dept of Education, to introduce Communism into SK Primary Schools.
Very cooperative and gave US PW information to the best of his knowledge. PW’s home is located right in the US PW Camp and for 2 weeks he spent his time in the camp. He surrendered to Civil Police in YONGDONG. Reliability, excellent.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
30 Aug 50 - Ordered by the 18th Primary School principal KIM, Yong Gu (金龍龜) to report to Dept of Education for further instruction concerning the educational system and diverting the SK system into Communistic ways.
31 Aug 50 - Left P’YONGYANG and went to SEOUL with 150 school teachers on train.
1 Sep 50 - Arrived SEOUL o/a 1900 hrs, 150 college students arrived from WONSAN on the same mission. 300 men were distributed to various occupied cities and towns for Communist indoctrination in Primary Schools.
22 Sep 50 - PW and 37 other came to KWANGJU (光州) and reported to KWANGJU Communist Hq. Sent to SUNCH’ON (順天) for the purpose of educating the students in the area through Communist indoctrination.
25 Sep 50 - PW and 7 other teachers arrived in SUNCH’ON. Three (3) were assigned to confiscate the land from the rich and distribute equally to the non-land owners.
Three (3) were assigned as school teachers for the purpose of Communist indoctrination in Primary School.
Two (2) women were assigned to teaching NK and Communist politics.
26 Sep 50 - Received instruction from SUNCH’ON Communist Leader, LEE Myong Jae (李명재) and was sent to HWANGJON (黃田) Primary School to introduce the Communist system of education among the 600 students.
28 Sep 50 - Received an order from the Civil Police station in HWANGJON to escape the best way he could because the NKA is withdrawing. He walked northward for 8 days and arrived in YONGDONG (永同) (1070-1470) and surrendered to Civil Police.
Personalities:
LEE, Myong Jae - Communist Leader in SUNCH’ON. Age about 26. Was an outstanding Communist in S. KOREA. He served as an important figure in the riot of 19 Oct 48, among the ROK 14th Regt.
The man responsible in diverting the 14th Regt of ROK into Communism was KIM, Chi Hoe (金智會), an officer serving in the ROK Army. Two (2) months later he was killed by the ROK soldiers in CHII-SAN (智異山).
After 3 days of rioting the Communist were driven out and the 14th Regt, of ROKA was disorganized. LEE, Myong Jae (이명재) gathered about 30 Communist and formed a guerrilla unit and escaped to CHII-SAN (智異山). When NKA occupied SUNCH’ON o/a 25 Jul 50, he came out of hiding after 2 years and collaborated with the Communist troops.
Location of US PW Camp:
P’YONGYANG 18 Primary School in P’YONGYANG KIRIM-Ni #96 (平壞市篢林里). 1 km E of West P’YONGYANG RR Station. 4 km NE of P’YONGYANG Main RR Station.
Buildings: Concrete structure with gray paint.

Above structures were formerly occupied by 18th Primary School of P’YONGYANG. Former heating system was stove. 23 Jul 50, 106 US PsW were imprisoned here.

Recreation:
Calesthenics - 45 minutes every morning
Recreation - 45 minutes after dinner and supper. Baseball and such, listen to radio.
Several times US PsW were taken to the broadcasting station for the purpose of broadcasting propaganda. US PsW did no fatigue duties.
Once they were taken through STALIN Avenue with a great banner saying “US PsW” carried by them. The citizens of P’YONGYANG were invited to examine the US PsW lined up in single file.
