3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
10 Apr 47: Drafted into the Security force training enter at NANAM (羅南), given a rank of Lt and served as an architect until 9 Jun 48.
10 Jun 48: Transferred to P’YONGYANG and assigned to the 3rd Ind Inf Brig and served as a section chief in the architecture section with the rank of captain (總尉).
Sep 48: The 3rd Ind Inf Brig was designated as the 3rd Inf Div. Served as an architect with a rank of Maj (少佐) until May 50.
20 May 50: Transferred as an architect to the Military Housing Section, SINUIJU Dist (新義州), P’YONGYANG Area, Ministry of Defense.
4 Jul 50: Received orders from the Ministry of Defense to confiscate arms in the occupied areas.
7 Jul 50: Arrived at sub-collecting station at KAESONG with one Sr Lt. The sub-collecting station received confiscated arms from occupied areas and shipped them to the central collecting station at P’YONGYANG. Remained in KAESONG one week.
13 Jul 50: Arrived SEOUL and received orders to collect confiscated arms in CHOLLA PUKTO (全羅北道).
18 Jul 50: Led a group of 22 men and left SEOUL for CHOLLA PUKTO.
O/a 1 Sep 50: Arrived SUNCH’ON (順天) and completed his mission o/a 10 Sep 50.
24 Sep 50: Arrived TAEJON (大田) on foot via CHINJU (䨝州) and KUMSAN (錦山). When he arrived at TAEJON he found out that the NKA troops in the TAEJON Area were practically surrounded by the enemy, so escaped to the SINTAIN Myon (新端面), changed into civilian clothes and decided to go home.
4 Oct 50: Caught by S. Korean police at CH’UNGJU (忠州).
Unit Organization and Strength:
The Housing Administration Dept was under the Ministry of Defense. Under the Housing Administration Dept, there were housing administration sections in SARIWON (沙里院), P’YONGYANG (平壞), WONSAN (无山) and Ch’ONGJUN (清津). Under the P’YONGYANG Housing administration section, was the SINUIJU (新義州) Dist housing administration office. The HAMHUNG (咸興) dist housing administration office was under the WONSAN (无山) area housing administration section.
These sections and offices also handled fuel such as coal, gasoline and firewood to be consumed by military installation. All the personnel assigned to the sections were non-combatants. The above sections and offices built or repaired all the military installations in the respective areas or districts. The housing administration dept was headed by a Col and sections were headed by a Lt Col.
Confiscated arms collecting stations:
Arms collecting stations were organized 4 Jul 50. The confiscated arms collecting dept was directly under the Ministry of Defense. Under collecting dept was directly under the Ministry of Defense. Under the collecting departments there were the KAESONG (開城), CHORWON (鐵元) and HWACH’ON (草川) Area collecting stations were to proceed south as the NKA advanced. The PW was the section chief of the KAESONG Collecting station.
Total tonnage of confiscated arms shipped back to the collecting dept at P’YONGYANG was not know but PW shipped two freight cars loaded with various types of US ammunition from the KAESONG RR station on 9 Jul 50 and 5 freight cars of various types of US ammunition from the MUNSAN RR station on 11 Sep 50. Only ammunition was shipped back. 105mm projectiles and small arms ammunition were all that were shipped.
