PW was cooperative, sincere, and intelligent. His information seems reliable. Served in the Japanese KWANGTUNG Army for 2 months, and was interned in PW Camp 5 months at MANCHURIA. He was repatriated to North KOREA in Feb 46.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
1 Mar 48 - PW volunteered for the NKA and was sent to the 8th Co, 3rd Bn, 4th Regt, 2nd Div in HAMHUNG (咸興). Upon completion of 1 month basic training, he became Co Clerk, 8th Co, 3rd Bn.
18 Sep 48 - Promoted to M/Sgt (特務上士) and became 1st Sgt of same company.
28 Jun 49 - Commissioned Jr Lt (小尉) and was put in charge of the Supply Plt, 3rd Bn, 4th Regt, 2nd Div.
30 Mar 50 - Promoted to Lt (中尉) and transferred to the Ration Section and the Clothing Supply Section, 2nd Div Rear.
28 Jun 50 - Departed HAMHUNG by train.
o/a Jul 50 - Arrived KUMHWA (金化). Travelled on trucks from here on.
7 Jul 50 - Joined the 2nd Div Rear at CH’UNCH’ON (春川). Promoted to Capt (總尉). The 2nd Div Rear remained here for about a week. During the week, the Ration Section sent rations to the Regt Hq located at ANSONG (安城), CHINCH’ON (鎮川), and KWANGJU (廣州).
13 Jul 50 - 2nd Div Rear departed CH’UNCH’ON by trucks.
3 Aug 50 - Arrived CH’ONGJU (清州). Rations which they brought from North KOREA were all consumed upon reaching here. The Ration Section received 120,000 kg of rice and 200 boxes of cigarettes, captured from the ROK Army, from the 1st Corps Rear. Sent rations to the Regt Hq at POUN (報恩), CH’ONG-SAN (青山), and HWANGGAN (黃問).
8 Aug 50 - PW promoted to Maj (少佐) and put in charge of the Ration Section. The former Chief was transferred to the 4th Regt and became CO of the Regt Rear.

6 Sep 50 - Arrived CH’UP’UNGNYONG-Ni (春風嶺) (1090-1470). The Ration Section was located in a tunnel approx 8 km N of CH’UP’UNGNYONG-Ni. Received rations from the 1st Corps Rear and sent them to the Regt Hq at KUMCH’ON (金泉), KOCH’ANG (居昌) and HYOPCH’ON (䀹川).
25 Sep 50 - PW and his 4 subordinates reached TAEJON at night and found that 1st Corps Rear was about to depart for the north. Heard that the 2nd Div was disorganized on 24 Sep 50. PW decided to evacuate with his 4 subordinates to the north by truck.
26 Sep 50 - Upon reaching a point 8 km S of CHOCH’IWON (鳥致院) heard that the UN Forces were already in CHOCH’IWON. PW never knew that SEOUL was retaken by the UN forces. Along the way approx 20 North Korean troops from the 3rd Div and some other units joined the PW.
27 Sep 50 - Reached a point 8 km of CH’ONAN (天安). Captured by ROK Policemen.

Note: In time of war, 20 EM were added to the Ration Section. Rations were hauled to the Regts on trucks were allotted to the Rations Section.
Daily rations consumed by the 2nd Div were as follows:
Rice: 9,800 kg (increased to 12,000 kg after 2nd Div crossed 380 parallel)
Fish: 360 kg (3 times per week)
Meat: 360 kg (3 times per week)
Vegetable: 9,800 kg
Bean Mash: 360 kg
Sauce: 360 kg
Sugar: 240 kg
Salt: 240 kg
Pepper: 36 kg
Vinegar: 12 kg
Oil: 360 kg
Bread: 4,080 kg per meal (twice a week)
Note: In time of war, the Div usually supplied only rice to the Regts. Regts obtained meat, fish, vegetables, etc. from the Peoples Committee (人民委員会) which were established in the occupied zones.
Regts often received rice from the People’s Committee when there was no transportation to haul rice from the Div.

O, Yong Son (吳榮善) (오영산), Maj, about 28, Motor Officer, 2nd Div Rear, formerly served in Japanese Army as a civilian mechanic at MUKDEN, MANCHURIA.
CHANG, Yon Hak (張演學) (장연학), Maj, about 31, Preparation Section Chief (準備課長), 2nd Div Rear, formerly a Primary School teacher in CHILIN (吉林), MANCHURIA under Japanese rule.

Morale and Propaganda:
PW saw a Safe Conduct Pass o/a 10 Sep 50, at CH’UP’UNG-MYON, but at that time he did not believe the contents. The people in NORTH KOREA were not authorized to have radios with more than 4 tubes, so they were not able to listen to foreign broadcasts.
4. GENERAL:Location of Training Center:
The 2nd Div Camp in HAMHUNG was said to be used as a training center after the 2nd Div departed from the south. It was a former Japanese Army Camp, located approx 2 km due N of the HAMHUNG RR Station at the foot of a hill.
