2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was not interested in the military and went AWOL from his unit. No accurate tactical information could be obtained. Reliability fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
7 Aug 50 - Drafter into NKA at CH’ONGJIN (清津). Received 3 days of basic training, and assigned to 6th Bn HMG Co 1st Plat 3rd Sqd. The 6th Bn (500) was assigned to digging air raid shelters in the hills.
25 Aug 50 - Departed CH’ONGJIN (清津). The men departed by train due to poor rail facilities most of the distance was covered on foot at night. About 300 men went AWOL as this unit was under air attack constantly.
8 Sep - Reached YONGCH’ON (運川). While under air attacks here, PW and 5 other ran and hid in the mountains. PW lived in the mountains and traveled southward until he came to TONGDUCH’ON (   ) where he surrendered to ROK Forces on 8 Oct 50.

Effects of Air Raids:
28 July 1950 - CH’ONGJIN (清津). Leaflets were dropped warning the residents to leave the city for 8 days. The people evacuated completely but the HAMGYONG PUKTO Governor ordered every one back to this city and threatened those who did not with a prison term.
After that a series of air raids by B-29’s started which reduced the city to rubble and killed 90% of the people.
