3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
17 Jul 50 - PW was inducted and sent to the 1st OCS PYONGYANG (平壞). Received military training for 25 days.
13 Aug 50 - Commissioned a Jr Lt and with approx 40 new officers (Jr Lt) departed for KUMCHON, where 27th Brig was stationed.
22 Aug 50 - Assigned to 1st Co Ind 3rd Bn, 27th Brig as Plt Ldr.
27 Aug 50 - Ind 3rd Bn arrived KAECHONG (雞井), 10 km S KUMCHON and was used as a training Bn for approx 600 replacements, until 25 Sep 50.
28 Sep 50 - Bn crossed 38 Parallel and marched to ILSAN (一山), approx 24km N SEOUL. Stationed here 2 days no combat.
30 Sep 50 - Retired to PONGILCHON
1 Oct 50 - PW’s Bn met US troops, near PONGILCHON and retreated after 30 minutes combat.
3 Oct 50 - Survivors assembled at KORANGPORI, (approx 200 men assembled there).
4 Oct 50 - Retreated to KUMCHON, and were stationed there 3 days.
12 Oct 50 - PW with 8 men of his command deserted and ran South.
14 Oct 50 - PW surrendered to US troops, SONGHYON Area.
Original Organization and Strength:
PW’s 3rd Bn consisted of approx 600 men. The composition was as follows:
2 Inf Co, 2 HMG Co (16 guns), Eng Co, Sig Plt, Rear Plt, Medic Section, Staff Section, Political Section, Anti-Aircraft Plt (4 anti-aircraft guns), and Arty Co (no arty).
Unit History:
27th Brig was organized at KUMCHON, 22 Aug 50. Original duty of this unit was to defend west part of 38 Parallel.
