Unit Organization and Strength:
Last Known Composition of Unit: As of 1 Oct 50, the 10th Div was gathered on a mountain west of KUMCH’ON and PW estimates the total strength at 3,000 men, 30% of whom wore replacements drafted from the SK Volunteer Corps,

Equipment:
As of 1 Oct 50, the 10th Div was equipped with 15 x 82mm Mortars and 20 x HMGs. PW also observed a large number of LMGs and a limited number of AA MGs and AT Rifles.

Unit History:
The 10th Div was activated in SUKCH’ON in Apr 50. PW heard that the various Communist Youth Organization Training Camps in North KOREA were reorganized to form the 10th Div.

Dispositions:
As of 5 Oct 50, PW heard that several thousand troops were hiding on a mountain 32 km NNW of SANGJU, and he believes that a part of the 10th Div was among the troops

Morale and Propaganda:
The morale of the troops was high until they encountered the UN Forces. After the 10th Div lost 2 battalions, the troops lost their will to fight and they gradually came to realize the impossibility of winning the war. The morale of the troops deteriorated rapidly and the unit commanders were troubled by the large number of desertions. A NK Jr Lt was found guilty of desertion under the Supreme Order No 81 and the PW saw him executed by a firing squad west of KUMCH’ON.
PW observed US propaganda leaflets near SONGJU (星州) which stated that the UN Forces made a successful beach landing in INCH’ON. He stated that it was very effective in inducing him to desert his unit and surrender.

The ration prices of rice was 75 WON per HOP and the market price was 200 WON per HOP (Jul 50).
The prescribed rations were easily obtained from official ration stations located within the city or from the ration section of the plants and factories.
People who qualified under the ration system also received regular clothing ration in accordance to the classification system. Details, unknown.

Effect of Air Attacks on Transportation.
PW does not believe that any measures were taken to protect the RR bridges or rail lines.
The biggest factor in the shortage of locomotives was due to the lack of replacements for damaged boilers. A large locomotive parts plant was under construction 3 km N of WONSAN (元山), but PW believes that it was destroyed by bombing.
The type of locomotives widely used in NK are the MIKASA (三笠) (MIKASA-Class) and TEHOKO (데호II) (TEHO-Class). The MIKA-class pulled 24 to 25 freight cars and TEHO-class pulled 18-20 freight cars.
Fuel for the locomotives was available in NK and PW believes that the supply was adequate.
Due to the increase in bombing and strafing activities by the UN Forces, it became impossible to operate the trains during the day. Trains are not camouflaged.
All large factories in NK were damaged or destroy by repeated bombing and PW does not believe there were any large factories still remaining which are able to produce anything.
