PW was cooperative, and seemed to be quite intelligent. Information considered reliable.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
19 Jul 50 - Conscripted at CHONGPYONG (定平), sent to PYONGYAN (平壞) assigned to OCS. Upon graduation, became a Jr Lt.
22 Aug 50 - PW and 60 other officers arrived at KUMCHON (金川), and were assigned to 635 unit.
23 Aug 50 - Sent to SONGHYON-Ni (송현리) and was assigned to 2nd HMG Co, 4th HMG Bn. After 20 days, Brig received filler replacements who trained w/o MG’s for 20 days.
15 Sep 50 - The entire 635 unit moved from SONGHYON-NI. PW heard that the 635 unit Hq moved to Il SAN (一山).
20 Sep 50 - The 4th HMG Bn was assigned to TANHYON-MIYON, KAL HYON-RI (炭縣面갈현리), and took defensive positions at the mouth of IMJIN River (盬津江).
3 Oct 50 - 4th HMG Bn arrived at a village approx 5 km S of CHANGDAN and took defensive positions for two days. PW observed other battalions of the 635 Unit move north.
6 Oct 50 - 4th HMG moved to SONGAKU-SAN (송악산), then went to YOHYON (려한) and took defensive position for approx 6 days.
11 Oct 50 - 4th HMG Bn arrived at SONGHYON-NI and took cover, due to heavy bombardment. All but 30 men in the Bn deserted and PW was captured by UN forces 12 Oct 50.
Unit Organization & Strength:
Original Organization:
635 Unit was composed of one Ind Bn, one Ind Arty Bn, one Ind Eng Bn, and four HMG Bns. Each HMG Bn was composed of two Inf Cos, two HMG Cos, one 82mm mortar Co, one 45 mm rapid fire gun Co, and one Eng Co. There was also an Ind AA gun plat, Ind anti-tank plat, Ind sniper plat, and Ind supply plat.
The total strength of each HMG Bn was 750.
Last Known Compositions:
About 30 men remained in the 4th HMG Bn.

6 HMG’s (M 1910 - Russ made): 18 Automatic Rifles (Russ make).
Unit History:
PW believed the 635 unit was newly organized in Aug 50 at KUMCHON with green men, except for the 635 commander, and battalion commanders.
Communications:
PW stated that standard gauge RR line between PYONGYANG and KUMCHON via SARIWON (沙里院) was in good condition, there were no grades, however, there were many sharp curves. There were two short tunnels between SARISON and KUMCHON. Believed the 635 unit used runners for communication, between units due to lack of equipment.

Morale & Propaganda:
