2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and appeared to be of average intelligence. Detailed information of the 239th Ind Brig was not known as it was organized 20 days prior to capture. Served as an asst Co CO giving lectures to the troops six hours a week. The lecture mainly was based on recent reconstruction and development of N. KOREA to stiffen the troops’ morale. Propaganda movies were also shown to the troops once in every two weeks to excite a feeling of hostility. No further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Aug 49: Drafted into the NKA at P’YONGYANG (平壞) and assigned to 1st Co, 1st Bn, 956th Ind Brig. Immediately after his assignment, he was commissioned Lt and served as asst Co CO.
3 Aug 49: 1st Bn, 956th Ind Brig arrived at CHANGYON (長州) by train and received infantry basic training until 9 Jul 50. When the 1st Bn departed P’YONGYANG the element of the Brig also departed and established permanent Hq at CHINNAMP’O.
10 Jul 50: 1st Bn arrived at HAEJU (海州) by train. It was rumored in the Bn that other Bns of the Brig were stationed at the following places at this time:
2nd Bn - CHANGYON
3rd Bn - CHINNAMP’O
Motor Vehicle Bn - ULLYUL (船票)
1 Aug 50: 1st Bn, 956 Ind Brig arrived at KUNSAN on foot.
10 Aug 50: 1st Bn, 956th Ind Brig was reinforced with recruits and redesignated as the 239th ind Brig at KUNSAN.
1 Oct 50: 1st Bn received an order from the Bn CO to retreat as KUNSAN was being surrounded with US troops. The Bn dissolved and dispersed with small groups. The PW led a group of seven men and voluntarily gave himself up to the local police force at KUNSAN.

Unit Organization and Strength:
239th Ind Brig actually consisted of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Motor vehicle Bns. Actual strength of the sub-units could not be given, however, by judging from the strength of the 1st Bn, total division strength was estimated to be 3,000. About 1/3 of the total strength was untrained S. Korean conscripts.

Equipment:
1st Co had 4 - 45mm field arty guns, 36 - LMG, 70 - SMGs and 4 - trucks. As of 1 Oct 50 all of the equipment was with the troops except trucks and 45mm field arty guns.
