3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
14 Mar 50 - PW was conscripted into the Peoples’ Railroad Security Unit ia TUMEN (圖們), MANCHURIA. The People’s Railroad Security Unit in TUMUN consisted of 3 Cos. The 1st and 2nd Cos were composed of Manchurians and the 3rd Co was composed of Manchurians and the 3rd Co was composed of Koreans. Assigned to the 1st Sqd, 2nd Plat, 3rd Co. Received infantry training for about one month. Guarded the railroads in the vicinity of TUMUN.
1 Aug 50 - The 3rd Co departed TUMUN by train and reached MUKDEN the same day. The 7th Co from CHILIN (吉林) and the 8th Co from MUKDEN and the 3rd Co assembled at a large theater. The 3 Co’s were composed to Koreans and were equipped with Japanese weapons.
2 Aug 50 - The three Co’s handed in their Japanese model 99 rifles and received Chinese manufactured M-79 rifles. The three Co’s departed MUKDEN by train for NK.
6 Aug 50 - The three Cos reached P’YONGYANG via SINUIJU (新義州). The personnel of the three Cos were distributed to units of the 17th Div. PW was assigned to the 2nd Sqd, 3rd Plat, 4th Co, 120mm Mortar Bn, 17th Div as an ammunition bearer.
9 Aug 50 - Departed P’YONGYANG by train.
11 Aug 50 - Reached SEOUL; remained in SEOUL until 24 Aug 50.
24 Sep 50 - Div fought against the UN Forces at NAMDAEMUN (南大門) in SEOUL.
27 Sep 50 - PW was separated from his unit and captured by ROK policemen.
Original Organization and Strength:
120mm Mortar Bn, 17th Div:
120mm Mortar Co: 44 men armed with Chinese manufactured M-79 rifles. There were no mortars in this Co.
HMG Co: 150 men
Rifle Co: 150 men armed with M 1891/30 Rifles.
