3. MILITARY HISTORY:3 Oct 50 - Inducted at SUKCHON
5 Oct 50 - Attached to 19th Div (APO 705). PW and an unknown number of men left SUKCHON and arrived at SUAMRI (壽岩里) about 4 km NE of SUKCHON (肅川). At this time 3rd Regt was newly organized and attached to an unknow Div which had been newly organized at YONGA (龍岡). PW was attached to Ind 76mm Arty Co of 3rd Regt and received about 10 days of military training. Later PW heard that there was an unknown number of Russian officers attached to this Div as training supervisors.
19 Oct 50 - While on guard duty PW and 7 men deserted
29 Oct 50 - PW surrendered to SK police
4. CODE NUMBER:19th Div: APO 705
5. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:The 3rd Regt comprised the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Inf Bns, Ind Engr Co, Ind 76mm, 120mm Arty Co and Ind 45mm Co. Weapons of 3rd Regt was unknown. The 76mm Arty Co was equipped with only 4 rifles. Observed no Arty guns in the Regt or Co.
Strength of 3rd Regt was to be approx 1,500 men.
Strength of 76mm Arty Co was about 100 men.
The 3rd Regt was commanded by a Lt Col (name unk).
The Regt was last seen in SUAM RI.
6. ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONOn or about 20 Oct 50 PW heard from a fellow soldier, who had deserted 20 Oct 50, that the entire 3rd Regt had received order to retreat to SINUIJU (新義州) and had already left SAUMRI.
While at SAUMRI troops of the 3rd Regt were told that the Regt would receive weapons in the very near future. Also were told that the Chinese Communist Army was preparing to declare war on the UN Forces.
It was also said that 3rd Regt would be used as an occupation and guard Regt after the CCF enters KOREA.
There was also a large number of North Korean Airforce troops now in the USSR receiving air training.
