PW was cooperative and appeared to be of average intelligence. Information seems fairly reliable.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
5 Mar 50: Conscripted in SUNCHON (宣川) and attached to SUNCHON Peace Preservation Unit. Received basic training.
7 Jul 50: Left SUNCHON and arrived at PYONGYANG (平壤).
13 Jul 50: PW and 2,000 others departed PYONGYANG and arrived at SEOUL (서울) two days later.
25 Jul 50: Commissioned a Jr Lt and assigned to the recently (16 Jul 50) organized SEOUL City Indep Inf Regt, 4th Bn, as Bn Supply Officer. The Regt was assigned the task of guarding the factories, warehouses, etc, in SEOUL.
26 Sep 50: In the face of advancing UN Forces, 4th Bn retreated first to POCHON (抱川), then to KUMKOK (金谷), to KAPYONG, and finally to CHORWON, where the Bn dispersed on 8 Oct 50. Details on other Bns unknown.
10 Oct 50: PW and 4 others surrendered.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Inf Bns were last heard of on 25 Sep 50, when they were dispatched to unknown places from SEOUL.

Unit Duties: (Seoul City Indep Inf Regt)
SEOUL was theoretically divided into 4 sections. Eacn Bn of the Indep Inf Regt was assigned the task of guarding industrial and supply installations in one section of the city.
Unit History:
Seoul City Indep Inf Regt was activated in SEOUL 16 Jul 50 with an approximate strength of 4,000 men. Unit was believed to be organized on orders from the Security Department in PYONGYANG.
Intentions:
When the UN Forces advanced toward SEOUL on 25 Sep 50, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Inf Bns of the Indep Inf Regt were coverted into defensive combat units. 4th Bn alone was left as a guard unit. Losing contact with the other Bns, the 4th Bn immediately started retreating from SEOUL.

Morale & Propaganda:
The morale of the PW’s unit was low, because the majority of the men resented the conscripting system.
UN propaganda leaflets were observed by the PW and several other soldiers. Leaflets influenced the above men to surrender.
