3. MILITARY HISTORY:29 Jul 50 - Conscripted at SEOUL and attached to the 106th Regt, 5th Bn, 2d Co. (Location of the 106th Regt was unk.)
31 Jul 50 - Departed SEOUL for YONGDONG (永同).
11 Aug 50 - Arrived at YONG DONG where unit remainded as a guard Bn.
12 Sep 50 - Departed YONG DONG.
20 Sep 50 - Arrived at SOSAN (瑞山) and dug trenches.
27 Sep 50 - Departed SOSAN and headed North toward WONSAN.
20 Oct 50 - PW deserted while marching through ANBYON (安辺). Heard that the 106th Regt had been located in TAEJON (太原), and had departed TAEJON and had headed north towards WONSAN.
The 5th Bn and possibly the 106th Regt joined a large unknown unit in the vicinity of ANBYON and headed north through WONSAN.
1 Nov 50 - Captured near KAMO CHONG.
4. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:The 5th Bn comprised the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Inf Cos; a HMG and a Mortar Co; and a medical a communication platoon.
Strength of Bn was estimated to be approx 600 men. The Bn was commanded by a Major (name unknown).
Troops were issued a rifle and 50 rds of ammunition prior to leaving SEOUL 31 Jul 50. No other heavy weapons were seen.
The HMG Co was equipped with unknown numbe of light machine guns only.
On 28 Oct 50 PW heard from NK civilians that a large NK Army unit was headed north through YONG HUNG (永興); PW believes that this unit’s destination was probably PAKTUSAN (白頭山) where major NK units were said to be reorganizing for their last southward drive.
