ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2155 1 November 1950

The following American PsW were interrogated upon their arrival in JAPAN from KOREA by Central Interrogation Center, ATIS. Interrogations were conducted at the 128th Station Hospital by Lts-Nunley and Garrett.
Information possessed by these men is as follows:

1. Jones, William H., SFC, RA-16063700
Source observed several Russians in SEOUL in civilian clothes. Source heard from other guards that these people came to SEOUL for some sort of conference.
He heard that Lt Tabor was with General Dean for two weeks after the General was reported missing.
Source states that prisoners were mistreated by South Korean civilians who threw stones and spit on them.
North Korean interpreter told source that North Koreans planned to invade JAPAN after subjugating South KOREA. He said this invasion was to tie in with a Russian offensive in EUROPE.

2. Kreider, Lloyd D., Pfc, RA-13266788
Source reports that some South Korean Psw joined the North Korean army and helped guard the Americans on the way from SEOUL to PYONGYANG.
North Korean-civilians gave source money in PYONGYANG. Source received thirty thousand (30,000) North Korean won.
In SEOUL source observed several Russians in civilian clothes, who states could have been soldiers. They carried suitcases and were accompanied by a few NK officers.
Source states that the books given to the PsW in SEOUL for purposes of communist indoctrination were published by the Foreign Language Institute in MOSCOW. They were printed in English and seemed to have been printed for the express purpose of indoctrinating Americans. They all dealt with the communist party line. The books were well-bound and the quality of the paper was good. Some of the books were new. Source states that some of the books were printed in 1948.

3. Jones, William H., SFC, RA-16063700
Source reports that the full name of the interpreter at the PW camp in SEOUL was KIM HAN SOO.
Source reports that the Communist theme books which they were forced to read in SEOUL were new, well bound, of good quality paper and in quite good condition. They were published since 1945. Source thinks the books were originally published in a NEW YORK publishing house and other editions printed in MOSCOW.
Source reports that the North Korean communist newspaper announced the capture of General Dean. He heard that the General had been seen in TAEJON.

Sharpe and Parsons: At a small headquarters, believed to be the 19th NK Regt, about 12 miles S of TAEJON, two NK officers showed these men what was said to be General Dean’s stars and helmet liner. The General was supposedly escorted to PYONGYANG dressed in civilian clothes.
Larioz: When interrogated in SEOUL, the man was offered a job with high pay and rank if he would stay there and help the communists.
General Information: The men were shown pamphlets stating they were receiving good treatment and the UN forces should stop fighting. The men were also made to write what they thought about KOREA, American “imperialism”, capitalism, etc. They were made to sign the pamphlets and statements.
The American officers who gave the NK’s any trouble were mistreated, i.e. little food, forced to stay up all night.
The NK’s were quite afraid of Japanese troops coming to KOREA. This question was asked all the men.
A NK Lt stated there were 1200 to 1500 PsW on a farm N of PYONGYANG. They were being treated well with good food and ample medical supplies.
Approximately twelve (12) Russians were seen at the NK Army Hqs about 50 miles NW of WAEGWAN. Four were in Russian army uniforms.
