2. ASSESSMENT:

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
2 Nov 46 : Entered Army at PYONGYANG.
15 Dec 46 : PW and 300 others left for HAE RYONG (會寧) and worked in a Signal Corp Unit.
8 Oct 48 : Left HAE RYONG and returned to PYONGYANG where he worked in Signal Corp Section of the Defense Ministry.
4 May 49 : Was assigned to the 573rd Signal Corps Bn at PYONGYANG.
29 Jun 50 : Left YONGCHON and arrived in SEOUL the following day. Assigned to the 1st Army Corps, Signal Corps department.
7 Sep 50 : PW was wounded in SAMGA and taken to TAEJON.
25 Sep 50 : All wounded men were ordered to retreat N on foot.
7 Oct 50 : On arrival in CHUNCHON, PW voluntarily surrendered to the ROK Forces.

Unit Duties:
The 573rd Signal Corps Regt was the Comm Center for liaison between the Supreme Hq and the 1st Army Corp.

Unit History:
28 Aug 49 : The 573rd Signal Corps Regt was activated in PYONGYANG. Prior to its activation the 573rd Signal Corps was a Bn. Most of the men who were recruited for this unit were middle school graduates and those who had obtained some technical knowledge in communications jobs. However the 573rd Signal Corp Regimental Hq was always situated in the Defense Ministry in PYONGYANG.

Personalities:
Supreme Commander of NK Army, KIM, Chai ; age - 45 (?). He was formerly the Ass’t Premier, before the war. PW heard from officials of the Rear Regt’l Unit, that on 1 Sep 50, KIM, Chai was in SEOUL.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale was high when PW’s unit was advancing South. It was just the opposite when the tide turned. Propaganda leaflets were effective. Many men surrendered.
