3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
17 Jul 50: PW was conscripted and entered Officers training school at PYONGYANG. After 20 days was commissioned a Lt.
30 Jul 50: Assigned to the 75th Regt (578 unit) as a liaison officer at HAMHUNG. 75th Regt received field training for about 45 days while PW was with unit.
20 Sep 50: Received word from Defense Hq (located at TONGDUCHON-NI) that UN Forces landed at INCHON.
30 Sep 50: 75th Regt arrived at UIJONGBU, established defensive positions and engaged in battle.
3 Oct 50: Unit received orders to retreat to 38∘parallel.
6 Oct 50: Unable to establish position at the 38∘ parallel due to the fast advance of UN troops. 75th Regt left the 82mm mortar Co, 120mm mortar Ind Co, 76mm Arty Ind Co and 46mm Arty Co at the 38∘ parallel to delay the advance of the UN Forces while the other elements went to YONGCHON.
7 Oct 50: The Arty units (above) joined the unit at YONGCHON. All Arty pieces were abandoned at 38∘parallel.
8 Oct 50: Retreated toward YANGDOK. PW while retreating to YANGDOK by way of CHORWON was captured. Believes only 1/5 of 75th Regt got through to YANGDOK.
Unit Organization and Strength:
75th Ind Regt (578 Unit) 2,800men.
75th Ind Regt composed of following elements; Ind 46mm, 75mm Arty Cos; 120mm mortar Co; Medical Co, SMG Co, Communication Co; and Transportation Co. 3 Bns in the Regt; each Bn composed of 3 Inf Cos, one 82mm mortar Co, one HMG Co, and one ind 45mm anti-tank Co.
Equipment (75th Regt):
6 x 120mm mortars, 27 x 82mm mortars, 6 x 75 Arty, 12 x 45mm AT Guns (40 rds each piece); 36 x HMG, 180 x LMG (1,200 rds per piece), 520 x SMG (120 rds per gun).
Unit History:
Unit was organized o/a Jul 50 at HAMGHUNG for the purpose of repulsing any landing on the HAMNAM DO sea coast.

Morale & Propaganda:
Morale was very high until unit lost most of its troops at UIJONGBU & YONCHON. Did not see propaganda leaflets.

Observed 3 Russian Officers on the Regimental Staff of the 75th Regt Hq until unit left HAMHUNG on 20 Sep 50.
