3. MILITARY HISTORY:PW was inducted 6 Aug 50 at SEOUL.
6 Aug 50 - Approx 3400 South Koreans were transferred from SEOUL to ECHON (伊川).
8 Aug 50 - Arrived in ECHON and received military training.
13 Sep 50 - PW and 20 men were transferred to WONSON.
10 Oct 50 - PW, with about 60 men of the above unit and an unknown engineer unit moved on foot to MOJONNI.
11 Oct 50 - PW and above 60 men arrived at MOJONNI and were attached to the 379th unit. At this time troops of the 379th unit were issued a rifle and 5 rounds of ammunition.
18 Oct 50 - PW deserted while 379th Unit was enroute to YONGDOK and was captured 31 Oct 50 at WONSON.
4. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:Organization of the 379th Unit was unknown; however strength was estimated to be approximately 550 men. Troops were armed with rifles and only 5 rounds of ammunition each. The 379th Unit was also equipped with 20 light machine guns.
The 379th Unit was last seen in MOJONNI 18 Oct 50.
5. ADDITIONAL INTENTIONS:While at MOJONNI troops of the 379th Unit were frequently told that the last major combat zone would be at PAK TU SAN (白頭山). It was also said that the remaining North Korean Army would, after this battle, retreat and enter MANCHURIA where they would reorganize and re-enter KOREA along the CHINESE Communist Army. They were also told that the Chinese Communist Army would aid North KOREA and had confidence in eventually defeating the UN Forces in KOREA.
Also were told that NK would receive sufficient air support to overrun the UN Forces in the very near future.
