2. ASSESSMENT:
PW cooperative and intelligent but information was limited.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Aug 50 - 360 Middle School students including PW conscripted and assigned to OCS in HWANGJU (黃州). Attended school for 30 days and commissioned Ju Lt.
1 Sep 50 - Departed HWANGJU (黃州), marched.
7 Sep 50 - Arrived SEOUL and 180 officers, including PW, assigned to various units in the 110th Security Regt. The other 180 officers were assigned to the 109th Security Regt.
7 Sep 50 - 109th Security Regt departed SEOUL by rail, destination TAEJON. Strength approximately 450-500 men.
8 Sep 50 - 110th Security Regt departed SEOUL, marched to KOCH'ANG (居昌). Strength approximately 450 men. PW's 43rd Bn strength 110 men. Only 50 men were armed during trip to KOCH'ANG (Japanese Rifles).
25 Sep 50 - Arrived KOCH'ANG via YONGDUNGP'O (永登浦), SUWON (水原), P'YONGT'AEK (平澤), CH'ONANA (天安), CHOCHIWON (鳥致院), TAEJON (大田), YONGDONG (永同) and KUMCHON (金泉).
28 Sep 50 - Heard that the UN Troops were advancing toward KOCH'ANG (居昌). Ordered to retreat by Regt CO to HAMYANG (咸陽). HAMYANG was taken by UN Troops and they headed for KUMSAN.
30 Sep 50 - Arrived KUMSAN (錦山). Many men in Regt deserted. Only 90 men arrived. The Regt CO told the men to disperse and return to North KOREA. CO fled by jeep. PW and 8 Sgts travelled by way of mountain trail to the north. Arrived POUN (報恩) Area and found a Surrender Leaflet.
6 Oct 50 - PW and a Sgt came out of the mountains with leaflet in hand and surrendered to ROK troops.

Unit Organization and Strength:
Original Organization and Strength - 450 men
Last Known Composition of Unit - Scattered and disorganized.

Intentions:
At KOCH'ANG, PW’s unit intended to receive and train recruits from the nearby area and to use them as laborers, to repair bridges and roads. However the unit no longer exists.

Morale and Propaganda:
Low morale among men and officers in unit due to lack of proper equipment. 90% of replacements were not willing to fight and had to be forced to do so. Lacked winter clothing.

4. GENERAL:
Living conditions in North KOREA were very bad. Prices of food and other commodities are twice as much now then they were before the war. Transportation has come to a virtual standstill. Gas and coal were used exclusively for the war effort.
Hearsay: The Chinese Communist Forces are coming to the aid of NKA. Heard from 110th Security Regtl CO at KUMSAN (錦山) o/a 28 Sep 50.
There is a tank training area in SADONG (寺洞), approximately 8 km SK of P'YONGYANG. Before PW departed North KOREA, men were being traincd in this area. Either Bn or Regt strength.
