Education: 6 yrs primary school.
Was a traveling salesman in MANCHURIA. On 3 July 50 he crossed the MANCHURIA KOREAN Border and was conscripted into the N Korean Army.
Was captured at KYONGSONG when he and 7 other men came into KYONGSONG to get some ammunition for his unit.
3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
PW was conscripted into the N Korean Army on 3 July 50 and assigned to the 17 Brigade which went under basic training at PYONGYANG for approximately 2 months.
17 Brigade 1st Arty Regt numbered about 1,200 men.
Equipment:
Arty 45mm and 75mm pieces, HMGs, LMGs, trucks, rifles, and tanks were all made in SOVIET RUSSIA.
Unit History:
17 Brigade left PYONGYANG 10 Sep 50 and arrived at ONGCHON on 21 Sep 50. The Brigade received orders from higher hqs to return to KYONGSONG, arriving 25 Sep 50. After a brief encounter with the UN Forces on 26 Sep 50 the 17 Brigade retreated north.
Communications:
Unit believed to have been using radio for communication with other units. Unit utilized train in transporting personnel, always traveling at night.
4. GENERAL:PW saw approx 50 American PW's at PYONGYANG on or about 20 Aug 50. PWs were guarded by two (2) N Korean soldiers and were being taken to some unknown destination on foot.
PW observed 2 Russian Officers wearing military uniform around that 1st Regt of the 17 Brigade while the unit was receiving basic training at PYONGYANG. These Russian Officers came about once every other day and inspected the equipment and mess halls.
