3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
PW was conscripted into the NK Army on 5 Aug 50 at PYONGYANG and was sent to CHINNAMPO for basic training with the 93rd Inf Regt from 6-26 Sep 50. Unit left CHINNAMPO on 26 Sep 50, arrived HWANGJU 28 Sep 50 where PW deserted & returned to PYONGYANG. He was caught on 30 Sep 50 and was sent to 77 Inf Regt on 6 Sep 50 at HAEJU.
Strength of 77th Inf Regt about 1,500 men,
Unit History:
77th Regt left HEIJO on 8 Sep 50 for WONJU, arriving there on 23 Sep 50 when PW deserted.
4. GENERAL:US PsW:
Informant observed about 340 US PsW at PYONGYANG on 18 or 19 of Jul 50. The PsW came by train to PYONGYANG and were being taken through the city while a NK officer in charge of the PsW was broadcasting through a microphone that there were 340 US PsW in the crowd.
Foreign Elements:
While with the 93rd Inf Regt at CHINNAMPO PW observed two Russian Officers (Maj). These officers came twice to inspect the unit.
Ammo & Equipment Storage Area:
PW states that the NK Army ammo & equipment storage area is located in a mountain about 2 km N of the NONSONG RR sta. There are many tunnels in the mountain which were dug during the Japanese occupation of KOREA. He saw many trucks carrying equipment to this mountain in Jul 49.
