4. GENERAL:
The hqs of the 918th unit was about 4 km north of the CHINNAMPO RR station. The area was surrounded by mountains 1 km to 2 km in height. The troops lived in a two story primary school about 8 m wide by 70 m long. This building was made of brick with gable type slate roof painted red. The distance from the school to the YELLOW sea coast directly west is about 2 km. PW believed that this Regt is still guarding the CHINNAMPO Sea coast.
About 4 km south were two factories. One was the ILCHOL Iron Factory and the other was a flour mill. These two factories were of brick construction with a flat top brick roof. The iron factory was a three story building. The distance between the flour mill and the iron factory is about 1 km. These buildings were painted grey. The number of spur lines leading to this area is unknown, however, PW estimates about 9. The location of these factories is about 500 m north of CHINNAMPO City.
PW saw one Soviet Officer on 23 Aug 50 at CHINNAMPO inspecting the Arty location and also the arty firing. The Soviet Advisor wore a blue uniform. PW last heard that he was residing in CHINNAMPO.
The CHINNAMPO Sea coast is mined.
