Last Known Composition of 1st Repl Bn, 99th Regt:
At the time of dissolution of the 1st Repl Bn on 24 Sep 50, at OKSAN-Dong (玉山洞), Bn was composed of 999 officers and EM, 300 of whom were S Korean, enlisted men.
When the order for dissolution was issued the men were so overjoyed that they just shouted and ran off in every direction.

Unit History:
99th Regt activated on 15 Aug 50, at CHINNAMP’O. Within 2 days it reached T/O strength of 9 battalions. Most of the Bn’s received 15 - 20 days military training.
To the best of PW's knowledge, the 1st Repl Bn, 99th Regt, was the first and only Bn that departed from CHINNAMP’O. The other Bn’s are believed to be still in CHINNAMP'O.

Intentions:
(Of the 1st Repl Bn, 99th Regt):
The 1st Repl Bn was supposed to have contacted I Corps Hqs for arms and assignment. Once the enlisted personnel bed been assigned, all the officers were to have returned to CHINNAMP’O either to train more men or bring down another group of men.
At the time of the Bn's withdrawal on 23 Sep 50, it was the intention of the Bn CO to march the Bn intact to CH’ONGJU (淸州). The company commanders opposed this, contending that it would be impossible to keep the Bn intact in the confusion. It was then decided to dissolve the Bn. With the order to disband, CO also told the men that those who could should gather at CH’ONGJU to resume their journey north. Enroute it was learned that CH’ONGJU was occupied by enemy forces so destination changed at POUN (報恩) and the next objective was CH’UNGJU (忠州). PW believed that the majority skirted CH’UNGJU and headed north,
The primary reason for the activation of the 99th Regt was to defend the shores around CHINNAMP'O (The fear that Americans would attempt a landing seemed to have been great). A secondary reason was to furnish replacements for the he South Korean operations.
