PW was cooperative, but not intelligent. Reliability, fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
18 Feb 48 - PW volunteered for the NKA at P'YONGYANG and assigned to the 4th Co, Ind Bn, Ministry of Defense in P'YONGYANG. Received 4 months basic infantry training.
? Nov 48 - Ind Bn was enlarged to a Regt. Its designation was Ind Regt (Code No 218), Ministry of Defense. PW was transferred to the 2nd Co, 1st Bn, Ind Regt.
18 Mar 49 - PW sent to YONGAMP’O (龍岩浦) Youth Training Center and promoted to Jr Sgt (下士), as the asst plt ldr of the 3rd Plt, 3rd Co. PW trained recruits until 19 Mar 50.
19 Mar 50 - PW was transferred to UIJU (義州) Youth Training Center and assigned to the 1st Sqd, 4th Plt, 3rd Co as sqd ldr.
20 Jul 50 - A cadre of 50 including PW were sent to CHINNAMP’O (鎭南浦) and assigned to the 72nd Ind Inf Regt. PW was assigned to the 76-mm Gun Battery and promoted to M/Sgt.
4 Aug 50 - 72nd Ind Inf Regt departed CHINNAMP'O by train. They held maneuvers somewhere N of P'YONGYANG for about 8 days.
O/a 12 Aug 50 - Regt departed P'YONGYANG by train for the south.
O/a 14 Aug 50 - Reached KAESONG (開城) and from here marched.
O/a 28 Aug 50 - Regt reached NAMP'YONG (南平), via SEOUL, P’YONGT’AEK (平澤), NONSAN (論山), I-RI (裡里), and
O/a 28 Aug 50 - 2nd Bn departed for KUNSAN (群山) and the 3rd Bn departed for MOKP'O (木浦). Bn (1st) also departed NAMP’YONG but its destination was unknown. Only the 72nd Ind Inf Regt Hqs (including supporting units) remained in NAMP’YONG.
27 Sep 50 - 72nd Ind Inf Regt Hqs (including supporting units) departed for TAEJON by train.
28 Sep 50 - Reached HAMNYOL (咸悦) and met the 3rd Bn of the 72nd Ind Inf Regt which came from MOKP’O. The 72nd Ind Inf Regt Hqs and the 3rd Bn marched towards TAEJON.
29 Sep 50 - The 45-mm AT Gun Battery, Signal Co. Recon Plt and part of the 76-mm Gun Battery (3 x 76-mm Guns and 25 men) departed HAMNYOL by truck at 1100 hrs. The other units were somewhere N of YOSAN at that time. The US troops entered the village of YOSAN at 1600. N. Korean troops all fled into the mountains. PW and 2 others headed N through the mountains.
2 Oct 50 - Captured by ROK policemen upon reaching the village of OKCH’ON (沃川).

PW believes that the 3rd Bn, 72nd Ind Inf Regt became disorganized o/a 29 Sep 50, somewhere N of YOSAN. Did not have any information on 1st and 2nd Bns, 72nd Ind Inf Regt.

KIM, Yong Son (金永善) (김영선), Col (大佐), about 30, 72nd Ind Inf Regt CO. Col KIM was last with the 2nd Bn at KUNSAN.
KIM, Chae Su (金在守) (김재수), Maj (少佐), about 28, 3rd Bn CO, 72nd Ind Inf Regt.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the troops was very low because they were mostly recruits with little training. Morale dropped considerably when they heard that the UN Forces landed at INCH'ON (仁川). PW believes that the propaganda leaflets are very effective on the N. Korean troops.
