2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative, and intelligent. Answered questions freely.
Education: KYOTO Middle School (5 yrs)
Occupation: Office Clerk
Physical condition: Good
Reliability: Fair

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
8 Aug 50 - Inducted at ODAEJIN (漁大津). No training.
16 Aug 50 - Departed for TOGWON (德源) with approx 1,200 recruits from KANDOK, ODAEJIN, and SONGJIN.
24 Aug 50 - Arrived TOGWON by rail. Enroute 2.26 Regt organized. 3 Bn had 650-700 troops.
29 Aug 50 - Arrived YONGSONG, by rail at night. The Inf units received weapons and training.
9 Sep 50 - 3 Bn was ordered to cross the 38 parallel.
15 Sep 50 - Arrived SUWON.
22 Sep 50 - Unit ordered fo retreat. Arrived OSAN (烏山) 26 Sep.

4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
PW stated that all CCF and Russians entering NK from the later part of Jul 50 did not wear uniforms. Observation was made near HONGUI DONG (洪儀洞).
PW heard that a former Japanese Air Force training school instructor (Korean national) holds a high position in the NKAF.

5. CODE:
Officers used code Nos for identification.
(1) 3 Bn CO: - SEOUL - 5
(2) Co CO: NAPO - 51

6. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:
Strength of 226 Regt estimated at about 2,700 troops (see chart for organization).
Troops of the Inf Cos were equipped with rifles, and 2 grenades. Mortar Co troops were equipped with PPSH “SHRAGIN” SMGs and 590 rds of ammo each.

7. AMMUNITION SUPPLIES:
Ammo-dump at PAESANJOM (裴山店) considered as the main depot, was observed 30 Aug 50 (see sketch).

8. ENEMY INTENTIONS:
226 Regt was known to be part of the NK Marine Force, and its mission was to guard the coastal line. The basis for this information was that while taking wounded to the hospitals, source was instructed by his superiors to designate these wounded to be of the 226 Marine Unit.
His superiors further informed him that upon cessation of hostilities, he would receive a commission in the Marine Reserve.

9. CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
PW saw approx 16/“BAZOOKA” with ammo, 3/M-1 Rifles, and 40/Carbines. All of these were believed captured at YONGHUNG DO (龍興島) island.

10. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
a. PW believed that all retreating forces would retreat through KWANWON DO, TAPEKSANGMAK (江原道 太白山 山脈).
b. All Russian planes flying over NK since 25 Jul 50 were painted gray without markings.
c. The 2 Bn of the 226 Regt was in INCI;ON o/a 15 Sep 50.
d. Marine Unit dispositions on the east coast as of 8 Aug 50 were as follows:
1. 1 Bn and a regt'l HQs located in KANDOK (康德). (Hearsay)
2. 1 Bn located in KYONGSONG (鏡城). (Hearsay, from person transferred to unit from there.)
3. 1 Bn located in NAJIN (羅津). Unit was known as the 3 Bn of the KANDOK Regt. (Personal observation)
4. 1 Bn located at SONGJIN (城津). (Hearsay, 2 Bn of the KANDOK Regt)
5. 1 En located at ODAEJIN (漁大津). (OBS - 8 Aug 50) Unit was separate from the one to which PW was assigned.
6. 1 En located at YOHAEJIN (汝海津). (Hearsay)
Note: PW believes that these marine units will remain in their respective areas, because their initial objective is to guard the east coast.
e. A possible additional Bn composed of recruits, (students, and farmers) at NAJIN (羅津).
f. Additional ground force (security troops) at SONGJIN (城津).
g. Possibility of an army or division HQs in NANAM (羅南) because all conscripts in the area reported there.
h. 1 Army Regt from NANAM at HOERYONG (會寧). PW lived in NAJIN (羅津) and often visited NANAM and CHONJIN (淸津).
i. An army training camp at HUKKYO RI (黑橋里). Observed while on troop movement through town.
j. The NK Naval Sch~oi formerly at NAJIN moved to CHON JIN in late May or in Jun 50. (Hearsay from a friend who attended the school).

11. SUBVERSIVE ELEMENTS (PRO-SK):
PW stated he was a member of the SOBUKCHONG MYON DAN (西北靑年団) N & W Youth Association, an active underground party, with sentiment for the Republic of Korea. From the later part of Jun 50 most of its leaders were jailed, and members conscripted so as to better control anti-government factions.
The number of members is unknown, but they were located throughout North Korea, with liaison accomplished by runners.
Text of the party was:
1. To welcome UN Troops.
2. To form a police unit.
3. To round-up all communist members.

Other groups with the same mission were as follows:
HANGUK MINJYU DAN (韓國 民主党), Republic of Korea Democratic Party
CHOSON MINJYU DAN (朝鮮 民主党), Korean Democratic Party
HANGUK TOKYIP DAN (韓國 獨立党), Republic of Korea Independent Party

All members of the HANGUK TOKYIP DAN (Republic of Korea Independent Party) were sentenced to jail in 1947.
