2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was talkative and cooperative. However he was not familiar with any tactical information. Born and raised in MANCHURIA and has worked for the Japanese Army 604 unit as a civilian veterinarian. Departed MANCHURIA in Dec 46.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
8 Aug 49: Inducted in NKA at KAECH’ON. Assigned to 6th Div, 13th Regt. Commissioned Jr Lt. Assumed duty as a veterinarian of Regt.
o/a 18 Jun 50: Departed SARIWON with 6th Div. Headed south. The 13th Regt had 198 horses.
o/a 30 Jun 50: Arrived KUMP’O (金浦). Captured vehicles and therefore horses were not used to haul the 45mm and 76mm guns, after this point.
o/a 26 Jul 50: Arrived KUNSAN (群山) via SUWON, P'YONGT'AEK, ONCH'ON-NI and HONGSONG. Remained one week.
o/a 6 Aug 50: Arrived NAMWON. Only 100 horses left.
o/a 15 Aug 50: Arrived SACH’ON. Stayed in hills in vicinity of town to tend the horses for 1 month. All the Horses were unable to be worked due to fatigue.
23 Sep 50: Departed this area as the veterinary section was unable to make contact with the 13th Regt and other units were in retreat.
27 Sep 50: Arrived NANWON with approx 80 horses.
29 Sep 50: Abandoned the horses at CHINAN.
2 Oct 50: Arrived OKCH’ON
3 Oct 50: Surrendered to ROK police force.

Equipment:
The allotment of horses for a rifle Regt was 52 per Bn (three Bns), 32 per 76-mm Howitzer Co and 28 per 45-mm AT gun Co. The total for a Regt was 216. However, the 13th Regt had 198 horses when it departed SARIWON o/a 18 Jun 50. Stated that approx 140 of the above horses were of the mongolian breed and had been brought to KOREA from MANCHURIA.
The veterinary section had equipment for minor operations on horses and sufficient medicine. PW stated that penicillin was sufficient after the NKA had captured the SEOUL-INCH'ON area.

Unit History:
Heard that the 6th Div was activated in MANCHURIA and entered KOREA in late Jul 49. There were no veterinarians in the Div as of Aug 49.

Intentions:
Hoard from retreating personnel of the 6th Div o/a 30 Sep 50 that the Div CG had ordered his men to regroup at NAMWON and retreat to NK via WONJU.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the troops became quite low in the latter part of Sep 50 due to the heavy casualties suffered by the NKA and also because the units were unable to make contact with higher headquarters. PW read a UN propaganda leaflet, telling of the INCH'ON landing made by the US forces, o/a 20 Sop 50 at SACH'ON, but did not believe it. NKA propaganda was as following:
1. The UN has no right to interfere with the Korean Civil War.
2. The US is colonizing South KOREA by not allowing her industries to expand.

4. GENERAL:
Ministry of Defense Veterinary Sect, Research Institute (民族 保衛省 獸镸部 家畜驗 試驗所) at P’YONGYANG, this research institute was operated by the NKA and was mostly engaged in research work on infections and heredity. Heard that approx 20 man were working to discover a tetanus and a glander MA, PI DAN (馬鼻洹) vaccine through experiments with all types of animals.
Stated that there were a large number of Japanese PsW who are now members of the CCF 8th Route Army. They are all technicians who were kept in MANCHURIA after the Russians withdrew. Stated that he had talked to some of the men and that they were well indoctrinated. PW saw these Japanese in MANCHURIA in 1947.
